In view of the increasing crowd on trains and railway stations during summer vacations, Indian Railways has taken an important step.
Central Railways has decided to temporarily stop the sale of platform tickets at four major stations from April 18 to May 15 in view of passenger safety and crowd management. Now, if you are going to catch or send off your family members in a train between these dates, you will have to say goodbye to them from outside the station.
Where will the new rule be applicable?
The railways have implemented this ban at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), Kalyan and Pune stations. Lakhs of passengers travel through these stations every day, and this number increases even more during summer vacations.
Why was this decision taken?
Recently, there was a stampede situation at New Delhi Railway Station during Maha Kumbh, due to which the railways have already become alert. During the summer holidays, the crowd of passengers is expected to increase especially at big stations like Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Lucknow and Surat. Therefore, similar restrictions can be imposed there soon.
Who will get the discount?
However, certain categories of people are exempted from this ban:
- Senior Citizens
- sick or helpless person
- Children and uneducated travellers
- Women who cannot care for themselves
The person travelling with them will be allowed to enter the station, provided they can buy platform tickets.
