An important information has come out from Haridwar district of Uttarakhand. In view of the upcoming Shravan Kanwar Yatra 2025, an order has been issued to keep all educational institutions in the district closed for 10 days from July 14 to July 23.

This order has been issued by Haridwar District Magistrate Mayur Dixit, stating that in view of the movement of a large number of Kanwariyas and the challenges arising in terms of traffic, this decision has been taken keeping in mind the public interest and the safety of the students.

Which institutions will be applicable to this order?

This holiday will be applicable to all types of educational institutions falling under Haridwar district:

  • -All government and private schools up to class 12th
  • -All degree colleges and universities
  • -Technical and technical institutes
  • -All Anganwadi centers

Studies will not stop

Although all educational institutions will remain physically closed during this period, instructions have been given to continue educational activities through online medium. Schools and colleges have been asked to teach students through digital medium so that there is no interruption in studies.

Why was this decision taken?

Every year in the month of Shravan, Kanwar Yatra is organized in North India, in which lakhs of devotees reach Haridwar from different parts of the country to collect Gangajal. This year the Kanwar Yatra is starting from 11 July 2025, and there is a possibility of heavy crowd in Haridwar during the Yatra. This affects the traffic system, as well as students going to and coming from school may face inconvenience and security related threats. The District Magistrate clarified that the Kanwar Yatra routes will also be closed or diverted at some places, making movement more difficult. In such a situation, this holiday has been declared giving top priority to the safety of the students.
