School students: Like Uttarakhand, now in the schools of Haryana also, students will recite the verses of Shrimad Bhagwat Gita during the Morning Assembly. This has been started from 18 July 2025.
The Haryana School Education Board has issued instructions in this regard for all the schools of the state. Under this, the morning prayer assembly in all the schools of Haryana will begin with the recitation of the verses of Shrimad Bhagwat Gita. This decision has been taken to promote spiritual and moral education.
Earlier, the Uttarakhand government had also taken a similar decision. Under this, a verse of the Gita is taught to students daily in the prayer meeting of all government schools in the state along with its meaning. This decision has been taken under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. In this, local culture and traditions have been allowed to be included in 30% of the syllabus. Every week, a ‘verse of the week’ is selected in schools. It is displayed on the notice board along with its meaning. At the end of the week, feedback is taken after discussing it.
The Haryana School Education Board has made it mandatory to recite the verses of the Gita in the prayer meeting in all the recognized schools (government and private). It was formally launched by the Board Chairman Dr. Pawan Kumar from Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Lab School, Bhiwani. This will help in developing an understanding of life values in the new generation.
The understanding of the new generation will develop.
This initiative has been launched in Haryana and Uttarakhand to impart Indian culture and philosophy to the younger generation through education. The verses of the Gita are considered useful not only as a religious scripture but also for the development of human values, leadership and scientific outlook. Some people see it as a promotion of culture, while some are also opposing it. This initiative is a big step towards incorporating Indian knowledge tradition in education.
