Star Mark in Notes: Have you ever looked carefully at the notes kept in your purse?

0

Currency: Look carefully at the notes in your pocket, is there a STAR (*) between the numbers on the notes? Do you know what it means? 99% of people make a big mistake without knowing it

The numbers written on banknotes ( called serial numbers ) sometimes have an asterisk ( ) . This asterisk is usually at the end of the number, for example:5AR 123456 ।

But what does this symbol mean? Does having this symbol on a note mean that the note is counterfeit? Or is the value of a note marked with this * symbol actually higher? What does this symbol mean?

RBI produces the country’s notes or money. Each note has a unique identity. The identity of the note is the note number. Apart from this, there are several symbols on the note which are meant to understand whether the note is genuine or fake.

But despite this, the market is flooded with many fake notes. RBI has repeatedly warned about this. But is this * symbol in the note number also a fraud? No, not at all. So what does this symbol mean?

This note is a “replacement note.” When a mistake is made while printing a note or the note is found to be counterfeit, the Reserve Bank removes that note and prints a new note in its place.

There is no problem in using the note. In fact, the star symbol is given only to indicate that this note has been printed in error. In simple terms, out of 1000 notes, you will see a star on only 100 notes.

This particular star is like any other note in this series. This new note cannot carry a single serial number, hence an asterisk (*) is added at the end of its number . These notes are fully legal tender by RBI. You can easily use these notes in the market.

The bank started printing these notes in 2006. It was then that the RBI clarified that the star-marked notes were a replacement/reprinted bank note.
