Bihar Voter List Verification Row : The Supreme Court on Thursday (July 10) held an important hearing on the petitions filed against the voter list verification being done before the assembly elections to be held in Bihar later this year .

Giving a big relief to the Election Commission, the apex court has refused to stop the voter list verification. The Supreme Court said that Aadhaar card, voter card and ration card should be included in the identity. The apex court will now hear the matter on July 28.

However, the Supreme Court told the Election Commission that if you have to check citizenship under voter list verification in Bihar , then you should have taken steps earlier . Now it is a bit late . However , the apex court said that what the Election Commission is doing comes under the Constitution . The court said that the last time such an exercise was done was in 2003. The Election Commission told the Supreme Court that it has some objections to the petitions challenging the voter list verification in Bihar.

The Supreme Court questioned the Election Commission for not considering Aadhaar card in the list of documents for voter list verification in Bihar. The Supreme Court asked the Election Commission, “Why is the issue of citizenship being raised in Bihar voter list verification ? This is the jurisdiction of the Home Ministry.” On this, the Election Commission told the apex court that under Article 326 of the Constitution, citizenship verification is necessary to become a voter in India.

Big comment on citizenship test

The Supreme Court bench of Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Joymalya Bagchi is hearing about 10 petitions challenging the Election Commission’s decision on Bihar voter list verification . The Election Commission told the apex court that citizenship cannot be proved only by Aadhaar. On this, the apex court told the Election Commission that this is the work of the Union Home Ministry.
