Infosys: Infosys, the country’s second largest IT services company, has announced 90 per cent bonus to its eligible employees for their better performance for the second quarter ending in September of the current financial year 2024-25.

According to ET, the bonus benefits will be given to medium and junior level employees in the delivery and sales units. These numbers are a large part of the more than 3.15 lakh employees of the Bengaluru-headquartered software company.

In an email sent to employees, the company said that it will credit the bonus with the salary for the month of November. However, the percentage of payment for each employee has been different depending on their performance and contribution for the quarter.

Infosys expressed gratitude to the employees for their good work

The email reads, “In the second quarter, we have performed better with higher profits, which has further strengthened our market value. This success is a result of your unwavering dedication and our strategic focus on margin performance. Your commitment is helping us build our capabilities and provide convenience to our customers. Thank you for your cooperation.”

Infosys has achieved growth in business for the second consecutive quarter in the quarter ended September. In the September quarter, its consolidated earnings have increased by 4.7 percent year-on-year to Rs 6,506 crore. At the same time, its total earnings have increased by 5.1 percent and reached Rs 40,986 crore. This time too, the company has not disclosed how much it is paying unit-wise in the email sent to the employees.

Let us tell you that Infosys had stopped increasing salaries in the financial year 2021-22 to save cash. It started its annual appraisal cycle in October last year and issued salary revision letter for the last pay cycle in December 2023.

Tax On Diwali Gift: Diwali is considered the biggest festival of the year in India and is celebrated with great pomp. On this festival, people decorate their homes, worship Lakshmi-Ganesh and give gifts to their family, friends and loved ones.

This gift is considered a way to strengthen relationships and share happiness. Apart from this, many companies also give Diwali bonuses or gifts to their employees. This bonus is a recognition of the employees’ work throughout the year and makes them feel that their hard work is being appreciated. Companies also give things like sweets, dry fruits, electronics, or vouchers on this occasion.

Know the rules and methods of protection

However, certain tax rules may also apply to these gifts and bonuses. It is important to know the tax liability of gifts and bonuses so that you do not face any financial surprises later. Certain types of gifts or bonuses may be taxable in India under the Income Tax Act, 1961. Here’s how the tax is determined and how you can minimize it.

Tax on Diwali Bonus

Diwali bonus is considered as a part of the employee’s income, hence it is taxed in the same way as salary. It is added to ‘salary income’ and taxed as per your income tax slab.

Method of prevention:

When adding bonuses to your income, use investment schemes like 80C, 80D or other tax-saving options. These can help you reduce your tax liability.

Tax on cash gifts

If you receive cash gifts on Diwali, it is taxable under certain circumstances. If you receive gifts worth more than Rs 50,000 in the entire year (in the form of cash or apparel), this amount will be treated as “income from other sources” and will be taxable. However, if these gifts are received from close relatives, they are considered tax-free.

Method of prevention:

If you are receiving gifts, ensure it is less than Rs 50,000 or from close relatives to avoid taxes.

Tax on gifts given by the company

Many companies give gifts to their employees on Diwali, such as electronic items, vouchers, or gold coins etc. These gifts are tax-free up to a certain limit, but gifts up to Rs 5,000 are tax-free. If the value of the gifts is more than Rs 5,000, then this amount will be added to the ‘salary income’ and tax will have to be paid as per the income tax slab.

Method of prevention:

If possible, request the company that the value of the gifts should not exceed Rs 5,000 so that it can be kept tax-free.

Tax on gifts in kind (eg, goods or vouchers)

If a person receives gifts in the form of clothing, home decor items, jewellery, etc. and their total value exceeds Rs 50,000, it may be subject to tax.

Method of prevention:

Keep gifts within the limit of Rs 50,000. Consider accepting gifts in the form of vouchers from the company, as vouchers are exempt from tax under certain circumstances.

Gifts in the form of Provident Fund or Gratuity investments

Companies in some cases give bonuses in the form of contribution to the employees’ PF or gratuity. This is a good way to save tax, as these investments are not taxable. While you enjoy gifts and bonuses on Diwali, you can make the most of your festival by adopting these tax saving options.

DA hike on Diwali: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given a big gift to the state government employees and pensioners on the occasion of Diwali.

The state government has announced a three percent increase in dearness allowance (DA) for its employees and pensioners. With this increase, DA has now increased to 53 percent. This will benefit about 17 lakh state employees and teachers of Uttar Pradesh. Let us tell you that recently the UP government also announced Diwali bonus.

This dearness allowance announced by the UP government will come into effect from July 1. At the same time, it will be added to the salary received on October 30, 2024. Before this, recently the central government has also increased the dearness allowance of the employees by 3 percent.

Diwali bonus to employees of Uttar Pradesh

Talking about Diwali bonus, employees will get Rs 6908 along with their salary. However, only 25 per cent of the bonus amount i.e. Rs 1727 will be given in cash, while the remaining 75 per cent will be deposited in their General Provident Fund (GPF) accounts. The increased salary and bonus payment for this month will put an additional financial burden of Rs 1022 crore on the state government.

Employees and officers get salary hike once a year and DA hike twice. Usually, DA is increased between January to July, while salary is increased in July or January.

DA hike in Arunachal Pradesh too

The Arunachal Pradesh government has approved a 3% hike in dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR) for regular employees and pensioners. This will be effective from July 1, 2024. The hike will increase the existing DA and DR rates from 50% to 53%, benefiting over 68,818 state employees. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein made the announcement on October 23.

Hours before the code of conduct for Maharashtra assembly elections came into force, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday announced a Diwali bonus of Rs 29,000 for Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) employees.

The BMC is the richest civic body in the country with a budget of over Rs 53,000 crore. Currently, the BMC is being run by a government-appointed official as the civic polls are pending.

Later in the day, the Election Commission of India announced the election dates for Maharashtra. The state will go to polls on November 20. The BMC has around 92,000 employees and officers on its payroll. In 2023, they were given a bonus of Rs 26,000, compared to which this time the amount is 11.53 per cent higher.

BMC said in the statement, “A demand was made from the Coordination Committee of different worker and employee unions of the Municipal Corporation regarding Diwali-2024 Preetirtha Grant to the officers/employees of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.”

The Diwali bonus was announced after a discussion between Commissioner Administrator Bhushan Gagrani and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, the official release said.

Apart from civic employees, teachers, professors and educational attendants of BMC schools and colleges, both grantee and non-grantee, will also receive bonus of equal amount, the release said.

Community health workers will get Rs 12,000 and ‘balwadi’ or kindergarten teachers and helpers will get Rs 5,000 as “Bhabhi gift”, it said.

CM Shinde said that all kindergarten teachers and Asha workers in the state will also be given a bonus. This will be Rs 3,000 more than last year. On November 8 last year, Shinde had announced a Diwali bonus of Rs 26,000 for BMC employees.

Voting for the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly will be held in a single phase on November 20, while the counting of votes will take place on November 23. The term of the state assembly will end on November 26, 2024. The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) was implemented soon after the announcement of the Election Commission.

Bengaluru-based IT company Infosys has announced quarterly performance bonus for eligible employees for the July-September quarter. The company will give an average 80% payout bonus this month.

The average payout of variable pay is 80%, but individual payouts will vary depending on quarterly performance and contribution. Only employees in position level 6 or PL6-Manager and below will be given variable pay. This amount will be credited in the November salary.

The company had paid the same average variable pay in the June 2023 quarter also. Whereas Infosys employees got 60% average variable pay for the January-March 2023 quarter and 70% average variable pay for the June 2022 quarter.

The employees of the company are very happy with this news. Let us tell you that recently Infosys has asked its employees to work from office for at least 10 days every month. Infosys has announced the performance bonus payout at a time when the country’s top IT companies have reported slow revenue growth in the September quarter.

This is how bonus performance will be decided

According to the ET report, unit delivery managers will decide the payout for their respective units. They will notify eligible employees this week. Let us tell you that the company had stopped the increase in salary in the financial year 2022-23. However, it started its Annual Appraisal Cycle from October. The 80% payout is similar to the Q1 payout, but higher than previous quarters in FY 2021-22. Then this payout was 60% to 70%.

Disclosure of employee ratings by January

Infosys CFO Nilanjan Roy had said that the company will start its salary hike from November 1. The company will increase salaries for all people below senior management in April and for those above in July. Infosys’ annual appraisal cycle begins in October and ends in September of the next financial year. The company discloses employee ratings by January. Issues salary hike letter in June.

The post Infosys: Will give 80% performance variable pay bonus to its employees first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.

Employees DA Hike/Bonus: Latest update for lakhs of government employees and pensioners of Uttarakhand. After the Diwali bonus, soon the wait of the employees and pensioners for the 4 percent DA increase is going to end.

It is reported that in the cabinet meeting held at the end of October, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was authorized to take a decision on the DA increase issue. After which, like the Centre, the file for giving dearness allowance to the state employees has got the approval of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, although orders for giving dearness allowance have not been issued yet.

DA increase orders will be issued soon

In fact, after the Central Government increased the dearness allowance of central employees and pensioners by 4%, it has now started revising the DA rates in the states also. Till now, many states like Haryana, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan have announced DA and bonus and now the Uttarakhand government is preparing to increase the DA of its employees and pensioners by 4%. It is likely that the CM will approve After the meeting, orders for DA increase can soon be issued by the Finance Department.

Possible to get 46% DA benefit from July

At present the dearness allowance of state employees pensioners is 42% and after the increase of 4 percent it will become 46%. There is a possibility that like the Central government, it will be implemented by the state government from July 1, 2023, in such a situation, arrears of 4 months will also be available. If DA is increased in November, then the salary may increase with the new rates in December, i.e. the salary for December. With this, you can get the benefit of 46 percent DA and arrears. However, official confirmation is yet to come.

7th and 6th Pay Commission employees and pensioners will get benefits

With this, more than 3 lakh government, aided educational and technical educational institutions of the state, post holders working in UGC pay scales and employees and pensioners of urban bodies will get benefit of the Seventh Pay Commission. Also, the dearness allowance of the employees drawing the sixth pay scale will also be benefited. Will be increased. Payment of increased dearness allowance will entail an annual expenditure of approximately Rs 600 crore on the government treasury. This will increase the monthly honorarium of employees from Rs 2000 to Rs 5000.

The post DA Hike/Bonus: New Update for Employees!

Along with giving the gift of bonus and DA hike to the central employees on Diwali, the government has also issued a strict instruction. It states that if any employee is found to be indulging in negligence or serious crime while on the job, then strict action will be taken against him. His pension and gratuity can also be stopped.

New Delhi. Amidst the gifts of DA and bonus to central employees, the government has also issued a stern warning. In this, it has been said to be vigilant about work and not to be careless and in doing so, instructions have been given to stop pension and gratuity after retirement. At present, this order will be applicable to the central employees, on which the states can also implement.

The Central Government has said in a notification issued recently that if the Central employees are found guilty of any serious offense or negligence during their service, then their gratuity and pension will be stopped after retirement. These instructions have been issued under the Central Civil Services (Pension) Rule 2021. The Central Government had recently changed Rule 8 of the CCS (Pension) Rules 2021, in which these new provisions have been added.

Information about the changes in the rules from the Center has also been sent to all the concerned authorities. In this it has been said that if the information of the guilty employees is received, then action should be initiated to stop their pension and gratuity.

Who will take action

– President who has been involved in the appointing authority of the retired employee. They will have the right to stop gratuity or pension.
Secretaries who are attached to the Ministry or Department under which the retiring employee has been appointed. They will also have the right to stop pension and gratuity.
If an employee has retired from the Audit and Accounts Department, then the CAG will have the right to stop the pension and gratuity of the guilty employees after their retirement.

Such action can be taken

According to the change in the rules on October 7, the competent authorities will have the right to stop the pension or gratuity or both partly or wholly of the found guilty employees. If any departmental or judicial action is taken against these employees during the job, then it will also be necessary to inform the concerned officers. If an employee is re-employed after retirement, then the same rules will apply to him.

If an employee has taken the payment of pension and gratuity after retirement and is found guilty, then full or partial amount of pension or gratuity can be recovered from him. It will be assessed on the basis of loss caused to the department. If the authority wants, the pension or gratuity of the employee can be stopped permanently or even for some time.

Suggestions will have to be taken before the final order Any authority will have to take suggestions from the Union Public Service Commission before giving the final order. Further, in any case where pension is withheld or withdrawn, the minimum amount should not be less than Rs 9000 per month, which is already prescribed under Rule 44.

If you are a central employee and get salary under 7th Pay Commission, then this news is of great use to you.

The Personnel Department has issued a clarification regarding the action of fine and punishment on the central employees. In this, it has been told how two or more punishments will run on an employee simultaneously and which will be applicable first.

Between the good news of bonus and DA, there is another big news for the central employees. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), which comes under the Ministry of Personnel, has issued a clarification regarding the action of two or more fines simultaneously. This rule will be applicable to the employees coming under the 7th Pay Commission.

The DoPT has said in the Office Memorandum issued on October 28 that during the first action of the penalty, the second action can also be invoked. The department has said that the sentencing authorities should clearly write in their order that an employee is being punished with two fines simultaneously and both the sentences will run concurrently. In this, it has to be told whether both the sentences will run concurrently or after one is over, the other will be applicable. Apart from this, will the punishment given earlier, or will the second punishment be effective on him?

How the two punishments will be implemented

The Personnel Department has said that if the authority does not clearly mention it in its order, then both the punishments will be implemented simultaneously and will run concurrently. Not only this, if the order given later is going to be with a big fine, then it will be implemented immediately over the earlier order and after the expiry of its term, if the period of the earlier order is left, then it will also be completed. DoPT has made changes in many rules for the employees getting salary under the 7th Pay Commission.

…then you will not get pension and gratuity.

Earlier, the government has also changed the CCS (Pension) Rules 2021. Under this, if a central employee is found guilty of serious offense or negligence during his service, then his pension or gratuity or both can be withheld. The authority empowered to take this action will have the right to stop the pension and gratuity of the retired employee.

In the rules of traveling allowance, changes have also been made in the rules related to traveling allowance of relief

central employees.
Diwali Bonus to Central Government employees: After the recently increased dearness allowance, now another good news has come for the central employees. The Finance Ministry has announced an ad-hoc bonus equal to one month’s salary on Diwali for central employees. Let us know who will get its benefit.

There is good news for central employees. The central government has given a big gift to the central employees. The government has announced to give bonus to the employees on Diwali. According to the information given by the Ministry of Finance, the employees of the center will be given non-productivity linked bonus (ad-hoc bonus) equal to 30 days salary. This includes Group C and Group B category employees of the Central Government.Which employees will get the benefit?

According to our partner website Zee Business, those non-gazetted central government employees coming in Group B and Group C will also be given bonus. Let us tell you that these are those employees who do not come under any Productivity Linked Bonus Scheme. Not only this, the benefit of ad-hoc bonus will also be given to the employees of the central paramilitary forces. Apart from this, temporary workers will also get its benefit.

How will the ad hoc bonus be decided?

It is worth noting that the bonus is added on the basis of the average salary of the employees, whichever is less, as per the ceiling of calculation. That is, the monthly bonus of 30 days of employees will be equal to about one month’s salary. Let us understand with an example how the bonus of employees will be added. If an employee is getting Rs 7000, then according to the calculation, 7000 * 30 / 30.4 = Rs 6907.89 (Rs 6908) will be made.

Which employees will get benefits?

According to the information given by the government, only those employees of the central government will get the benefit of this, who have been in service on 31 March 2021.
During the year 2020-21, continuous duty has been given for at least six months.
Temporary employees appointed on adhoc basis will also get this bonus, but there should be no break in service in the meantime.

– Such employees who have been out of service, have resigned or have retired on or before 31 March 2022, will be treated as a special case.

Ad-hoc bonus will be given to those who have illegally retired or died before March 31 on medical grounds, but have performed regular duty for six months in a financial year.
Bonus will be fixed on ‘Pro Rata Basis’ based on the nearest number of regular service of the concerned employee.

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved 78 days Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) for railway employees. According to sources, this will benefit about 11 lakh non-gazetted railway employees. This announcement will put an additional burden of Rs 2,000 crore on the exchequer. Apart from this, the government has also approved 4 per cent DA hike.

This bonus will be given for the financial year 2021-22. Even before this, the government had announced a bonus of 78 days in 2021. At that time also more than 11 lakh railway employees got its benefit. The government usually announces bonus before Dussehra. Due to the bonus given in 2021, there was an additional burden of Rs 1985 crore on the exchequer.

Every eligible employee will get such a bonus

Railway employees can be given a maximum productivity linked bonus of Rs 7,000 per month. On the basis of this, if the bonus of 78 days is calculated, then the government will give a bonus of Rs 17951 to every eligible railway employee.

The practice was started by the Railways. Indian Railways was the first among the departments working within the government to start PLB. Railways started it in 1979-80. Railway employees are given a different bonus than the payment of bonus X-1965. Considering the importance of railways in nation building, PLB was started. Although, it is different from the Payment of Bonus Act, but under it many of the main things of that Act were kept.

Sealed on many decisions related to the common man, in the meeting of the Union Cabinet today, 4 percent increase in dearness allowance for central employees was allowed. Central employees have been demanding this for a long time. After this, the dearness allowance of the employees will increase to 38 percent. Earlier in March also, dearness allowance was increased by 3 percent. Apart from this, the government has extended the Garib Kalyan Yojana for another 3 months. This means that about 80 crore Indians will now get free food grains till December.

The post Good news for railway employees, Center approves 78 days bonus before Dussehra first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.

In view of Onam, there is good news for government employees in the state of Kerala in South India. Keeping in mind the upcoming festival, the state government has announced a bonus of Rs 4,000 for its employees. On Monday (August 29, 2022), the government announced a financial package for all its employees and pensioners, under which about 13 lakh people would benefit.

There Finance Minister K. N. Balagopal said that government employees who are not entitled to the bonus will get Rs 2,750 as special festival allowance. According to the statement, more than 13 lakh employees and laborers working in the government sector will get the benefit of this scheme of the government. Under the Contributory Pension Scheme, a special festival allowance of Rs 1,000 will be given to service pensioners and employees.

According to the minister, all government employees in the state would be entitled to an advance of Rs 20,000 before their monthly salary. Apart from this, part time and casual employees will get an advance amount of Rs 6,000 from their salary.

Actually, Onam Bonus has been a custom in the state for years. In such a situation, this time it included Rs 4,000 for all government employees and Rs 2,750 for those who were not eligible for bonus. To meet these Onam commitments, the state government, which is facing shortage of money, will have to spend an additional Rs 1,000 crore.

Meanwhile, the general norm in the private sector in the state is that all employees are eligible to get one month’s salary as Onam bonus. Unlike the last two years when the festival was less celebrated due to the pandemic, this year the state is all set to return to the pre-Covid times and celebrate the harvest festival in a grand manner.

Payment Of Bonus (Amendment) Act, 2015 provides for the mandatory annual payment of bonus to eligible employees of establishments which employ 20 or more persons. In accordance with the terms of the Principal Act, every employee who draws a salary of INR 10,000 or below per month and who has worked for not less than 30 days in an accounting year, is eligible for bonus (calculated as per the methodology provided under the Principal Act) with the floor of 8.33% of the salary payable to him/her and a cap on the maximum bonus statutorily payable (20% of the salary). Apart from seeking to broaden the eligibility limit, (from INR 10,000 set out under the Principal Act, the Amendment Act also raises the calculation ceiling for payment of bonus and retrospectively places the onus on employers to make payment of bonuses to eligible employees effective from 1 April 2014.

Details of Amendments and Analysis

The Amendment Act has amended the Principal Act in the following manner:

Amendment of Eligibility Limit

By amending Section 2(13) of the Principal Act, the Amendment Act has now widened the scope of employees eligible for payment of bonus from those drawing salary of INR 10,000 per month, to INR 21,000 per month.

The amendment in the eligibility limit appears to be an initiative which forms a part of the Central Government’s pro-labour policy. Interestingly, the last amendment to the eligibility limit was carried out in the year 2007 and over the past decade, the economy has seen significant reforms. These economic reforms have contributed towards an exponential increase in pay-scales making this amendment to the Principal Act very important to the larger populace of the workforce which earns between INR 10,000 and INR 21,000 per month.

Calculation of Bonus

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block; text-align: center;" data-ad-layout="in-article" data-ad-format="fluid" data-ad-client="ca-pub-2157588733990902" data-ad-slot="2864970131"></ins>

Taking the demands of the trade unions head on, Section 12 of the Principal Act has been amended to state that where the salary or wage of an employee exceeds INR 7,000 per month or the minimum wage for the scheduled employment, the bonus payable to such employee shall be calculated as if his salary or wage were INR 7,000 per month or the minimum wage for the scheduled employment, whichever is higher.

The Principal Act provided that the bonus payable to an employee shall be in proportion to his/her salary. However, where an employee’s salary was over INR 3,500 per month, for the purposes of calculating bonus, the salary was to be assumed to be INR 3,500 per month. With a view to maximise bonus earnings, the Amendment Act has increased the wage ceiling for calculation to INR 7,000 and has also factored in possibilities where the minimum wage payable to such employees may be over INR 7,000, thereby giving employees the flexibility to draw a higher amount as bonus.

How to calculate bonus liability as an employer?

Your liability depends on a number of factors like:

The minimum wages applicable in your state

The number of employees with salaries less than Rs. 10,000

The number of employees with salaries between Rs. 10,000 – Rs. 21,000

The amount of Bonus already paid

We understand that calculating the liability can be a little tricky and we wanted to simplify this process for you. Hence we’ve created an easy to use calculator that be downloaded by clicking on the link below.
