1. Punjab

Every year, a Shaheedi Jor Mel is held at Sri Fatehgarh Sahib to pay homage to the martyrdom of the four Sahibzades of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj and Mata Gujri Ji. Devotees from far and wide come to pay obeisance on the martyrdom day. When Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji left Sri Anandpur Fort, his family went towards the Sirsa river and they got separated. The two elder Sahibzadey remained with Guru Ji and the two younger Sahibzadey remained with Mata Gujri Ji. The elder Sahibzadey was martyred during the battle of Chamkaur Sahib with the Mughals.

The younger sons were made to be walled up. In 1705, the Mughals captured the younger sons of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, 9-year-old Baba Zorawar Singh and 7-year-old Baba Fateh Singh Ji along with Mata Gujri near the village of Saheri and took them to Fatehgarh Sahib and there they were asked to convert to Islam, but the sons refused. On this, the Mughals kept Mata Gujri and both the sons in a cold tower for three days and two nights to torture them. The sons were made to be walled up. After the martyrdom of the younger sons, Mata Gujri Ji also sacrificed her life, and Mata Gujri Ji also became a martyr.

Gram Director Shishir said in a statement, “Taking note of the demand of various organizations, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday directed to declare October 11 as a public holiday except essential services on the occasion of Navmi.” Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh said that all schools under the Basic Education Department will remain closed across the state. On this day, people will exercise their franchise during voting on 90 assembly seats in Haryana, and the counting of votes will take place on October 8.

Haryana’s neighbouring state, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also took an important decision, saying that Punjab government employees registered as voters in Haryana will be given a holiday on October 5. This holiday will not be deducted from the annual leaves of the employees, allowing them to participate in the voting without any deduction.

The decision is aimed at encouraging employees to participate in voting and strengthen the democratic process.

According to an order by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, keeping in mind the Haryana Assembly elections, the Punjab government has declared a special holiday on October 5. If any officer or employee is registered in the voter list of Haryana Assembly and is employed in government, educational institutions, offices, boards, and corporations of the state of Punjab, he can take special leave on October 5 by showing his voter ID card. And as October 6 is a Sunday weekly holiday, employees will get two consecutive days off.

This initiative ensures that employees can exercise their voting rights without suffering the loss of absence from work.

Due to this, all government and private schools and colleges will remain closed in Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Saharanpur, Hapur. Muzaffarnagar District Magistrate Arvind Mallapa, while announcing the school holiday, said that all schools and colleges will remain closed from 27 July to 2 August 2024. This closure applies to all primary, upper primary, secondary, CBSE, ICSE board-recognized schools, madrasas, degree colleges, DIET and technical institutes.

According to a report by The Economic Times, an order has been issued to keep government and private schools and colleges closed in Saharanpur, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar and Hapur from July 27 to August 2. This has been done so that no one faces any problem while traveling.

On the other hand, apart from UP, similar steps have been taken in Uttarakhand. To minimize the obstacles, school schedules have been changed in cities like Varanasi, Indore and Ujjain. During the travel season, schools in these areas will remain weekly closed on Monday and conduct classes on Sunday.

Police is monitoring for the safety of Kanwadis

Police surveillance has been increased on major routes to ensure the safety of a large number of pilgrims for the Kanwar Yatra, which will run from July 22 to August 6, 2024. Police in Delhi have issued traffic advisories related to the Yatra. However, no closure of schools has been announced in the capital.
