UT Chandigarh announces half-day holiday in schools today

Chandigarh: In memory of the bravery of Shaheed Udham Singh, a half-day academic schedule will be organized on July 31, 2025 (Thursday) in all government, government-aided, centrally run and recognized private schools of UT Chandigarh.

As per the instructions issued by the Education Department, UT Chandigarh, regular classes will conclude early, after which a one-hour special school assembly (prayer assembly) dedicated to honouring the life and legacy of Shaheed Udham Singh, who courageously sacrificed his life in the fight against colonial rule for the freedom of our country, will be organized.

Daily Schedule:

Schools with morning sessions: Classes will be held until 11:00 AM, followed by a special prayer meeting from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Evening Session School: Classes will be held until 3:00 PM, followed by a special prayer meeting from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

The prayer meeting will feature participation from students and teachers through speeches, skits, patriotic songs, poems and reflections on the life of Shaheed Udham Singh. Schools are encouraged to use this opportunity to instill a sense of patriotism, courage and justice among students.

Governor of Punjab and Administrator of UT Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria said,
“The fearless justice of Martyr Udham Singh is a powerful reminder of the sacrifices that laid the foundation of our nation. On this day, special assemblies will be organized in schools to honour his legacy, to pay tribute to his contribution and to inspire every child with the values of courage, patriotism and honesty. Through these events, we aim to inculcate in students the spirit of India’s freedom struggle and civic responsibilities in a free and democratic society.”

The initiative aims to inspire young minds with the values espoused by one of India’s bravest freedom fighters and connect them with the spirit of the Indian freedom movement.

Jalandhar- Guru Gobind Singh’s birth anniversary will be celebrated with devotion across the country on January 6. In this regard, a half-day holiday has been announced in Jalandhar district on Thursday, January 2, 2025.

Keeping in mind the religious sentiments of the people, DC Dr. Himanshu Agarwal has announced a half-day holiday on January 2 in all government and non-government schools and colleges falling within the limits of Jalandhar Municipal Corporation in view of the Nagar Kirtan being organized by various religious organizations on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

Let us tell you that a half-day holiday was declared on January 2nd due to the Nagar Kirtan, which will begin from Gurdwara Diwan Asthan Central Town, dedicated to the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Maharaj Ji, a Nagar Kirtan will be organized from Central Town, Jalandhar on Thursday, January 2. In this regard, Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Himanshu Agarwal has announced a half-day holiday in all government and private schools and colleges of the district.

The Punjab State Child Rights Protection Commission has taken strict notice of private schools not complying with the orders of the Education Department regarding the timing of school opening in summer and winter season.

Commission Chairman Kanwardeep Singh said that many private schools ignore the instructions of the Education Department and open the schools before the scheduled time, due to which the safety of children may be threatened in foggy and cold weather.

Recently, cases of accidents with school buses have come to light in many places, due to which the lives of children are in danger. Taking cognizance of this matter, the commission has instructed the school education department to take strict action against any private school that violates government orders.

He said that if a school does not follow the government orders and an accident occurs, the principal and management of the school concerned will be responsible for it. In this regard, the Commission has instructed all District Education Officers, Child Protection Officers and the Police Department to take immediate action to ensure the compliance of government orders in schools.

DC Dr. By Himanshu Agarwal, in view of the Nagar Kirtan being organized by various religious organizations on November 12 on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, keeping in mind the religious sentiments of the people, all the government and non-government schools within the limits of the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation, A half-day holiday (Punjab School Closed) has been announced in the colleges on November 12 in the afternoon.

Apart from this, there will be plenty of holidays in the month of November. There will be a total of 13 holidays in this month, including 4 Sunday holidays.

Meanwhile, there will be holidays (Punjab School Closed) on November 15, 16 and 17 in Punjab. According to the list of holidays, November 15 is Gurpurab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, on which day the holiday will be held.
