EPFO Update: Retirement fund body EPFO has extended the time limit for employers to upload salary related information etc. till January 31, 2025. This time limit is for 3.1 lakh applications which are pending for pension on higher salary.

A statement from the Labor Ministry said that EPFO has provided online facility to submit applications for verification of joint options for pension on higher salary.

17.49 lakh applications received from pensioners till 11 July 2023

In compliance with the Supreme Court order dated 4 November 2022, this facility was introduced for eligible pensioners or members on 26 February 2023. It was to be made available by 3 May 2023. However, considering the representation of the employees, the time limit has been extended to 26 June 2023 to give four months’ time to the eligible pensioners / members to file the application. They were also given an additional 15 days to remove any difficulty. This made the last date for submission of applications 11 July 2023 and till this date 17.49 lakh applications were received from pensioners.

More than 3.1 lakh applications still pending with employers

However, even after this, on the request of employers and employer associations to extend the time to ‘upload’ the salary details, the deadline for submitting salary details etc. online was first extended to 30 September 2023, then to 31 December 2023 and then to 31 May 2024. Despite such a long extension, it was seen that more than 3.1 lakh applications are still pending with the employers for verification of combined options.

The ministry said, therefore, employers are now being given a ‘last chance’ till January 31, 2025 to settle these pending applications and ‘upload’ them soon. Employers were also requested to submit their replies and update the information in more than 4.66 lakh cases by January 15, 2025. Where the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has sought additional information about the application received and examined by it.

The Ministry of Labor may allow the members of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) to contribute more for higher pension. For this, the ministry is considering making improvements in the Employees’ Pension Scheme 1995 (EPS-95).

Let us tell you that currently 12 percent of the salary (basic salary and dearness allowance) of EPFO members goes to the EPF account. Out of the employer’s 12 percent contribution, 8.33 percent goes to EPS-95, while the remaining 3.67 percent is deposited in the EPF account.

What is the plan

A source said that if members contribute more to their EPS-95 account they will get more pension. Therefore, the ministry is considering options to allow more contribution to EPS. Employees may also be allowed to contribute to EPS-95 to increase pension benefits under the revised framework.

The source said that apart from improving social security benefits, the Narendra Modi government is also focusing on job creation in the country. He said that according to estimates, a capital expenditure of Rs 1 crore creates three to six jobs. The source said that major infrastructure projects worth Rs 4.19 lakh crore have been approved and it is estimated that this will create more than 1.26 crore jobs.

The Labor Ministry said this to EPFO

Recently, the Ministry of Labor asked the EPFO to focus on promoting IT infrastructure and capacity building preparations to launch the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme. Let us tell you that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced the launch of three employment-related schemes based on enrollment in EPFO in the Union Budget.

Three schemes for ELI were announced in the Budget 2024-25 under the Prime Minister’s package of five schemes and initiatives. Under this, a target has been set to create employment, skills and other opportunities for 4.1 crore youth in five years with an expenditure of Rs 2 lakh crore.

Additional Compassionate Pension for Super Senior Citizens: There is great news for super senior citizens. The central government will now provide the benefit of additional pension to pensioners aged 80 years and above.

According to a recent notification from the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, the central government will provide additional pension to these pensioners in the name of compassionate allowance.

Pension Ministry issued new guidelines

The Ministry of Pension has also issued new guidelines regarding pension for retired employees of Central Government Civil Services who have attained the age of 80 years. The purpose of the guidelines is to simplify the process of distributing these additional allowances. As per the provisions of sub-rule 6 of rule 44 of the CCS (Pension) Rules 2021, pension and compassionate allowance will be given under the rules after the retired government employee attains the age of 80 years or more.

How much additional pension will people of which age group get?

Senior citizens aged 80 to 85 years will be eligible for 20 percent of the basic pension, while pensioners aged 85 to 90 years will get 30 percent of the basic pension. Senior citizens aged 90 to 95 years will be eligible for 40 percent of the basic pension and those aged 95 to 100 years will get 50 percent. Super seniors aged 100 years or more will be eligible for 100 percent of the basic pension. Understand by example – Pensioners born on 20 August 1942 will be eligible for additional pension at the rate of 20 percent of the basic pension from August 1, 2022. Pensioners born on August 1, 1942 will also be eligible for additional pension at the rate of twenty percent of the basic pension from August 1, 2022.

When will the compassionate allowance become effective

The notification of the Department of Pension and Pensioners Welfare states that the additional pension or compassionate allowance will be effective from the first day of the month when the pensioner reaches the prescribed age. These additional pension payments are designed to help pensioners manage the increasing cost of living with increasing age.

The notification states that all departments and banks involved in pension and pension distribution have been directed to disseminate information about the new pension guidelines, so that all eligible pensioners can get proper benefits without delay.

The online application facility was started on February 26, 2023, which was extended twice till July 11.

During this period, 17.49 lakh applications were received from pensioners and existing employees to opt for more pension. After this, employers were given time till September 30 to upload the salary details of their interested employees. Later it was extended till 31 December.

EPFO Pension Update : If you deposit money in Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) and want to increase the pension you get through it, then this is special news for you. EPFO has given three months time to the employers to upload the salary details etc.

regarding pension on higher salary. Earlier the last date for submitting these details was 30 September. Now it has been extended till 31st December. However, as of September 29, 5.52 lakh applications were pending with EPFO . The option of taking higher pension/joint option had to be verified.

According to the Labor Ministry, 17.49 lakh applications have been received from pensioners/members for verification of option/joint option till July 11, 2023. Earlier, the Employees Provident Fund Organization had launched an online facility to submit applications for verification of option/joint option for pension on higher salary following the November 4, 2022 order of the apex court.

You can submit application online

According to the statement of the Labor Ministry, this facility for pensioners/members was started on February 26, 2023. Under this, the last date for submission of applications was May 3, 2023. However, later considering the request of the employees, the deadline for submitting applications for higher pension was extended till June 26, 2023.

Eligible pensioners/members were given a last opportunity of 15 days to remove any difficulties faced by them. Under this, the last date for submission of applications for verification of option/joint option to the employees was extended till July 11, 2023.

If you have not yet submitted the application for this, then there is no need to worry. For this you can apply online. For this you will have to go to EPFO website. According to the information given there, you will have to apply by providing documents online.

EPFO issued SOP

EPFO has issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). By providing EPF account holders the facility to update their personal information, the number of claim rejections will also reduce and the risk of fraud will also reduce. By providing EPF account holders the facility to update their personal information themselves, the number of claim rejections will reduce. Besides, the risk of online fraud will also reduce.

If the information submitted to EPFO and the information filled in the claim form at the time of making the claim does not match, the claim gets rejected. But now EPFO has issued a circular saying that EPF members can correct or update 11 details. The information that can be updated includes name, gender, date of birth, father’s name, relationship, marital status, date of joining. Date of joining, reason for leaving, date of leaving, nationality and Aadhaar number are included.

Interest on PM will increase

There is an important news for provident fund account holders this month. It is being told that by the end of the month of August, the interest received on the deposits of the account holders will be deposited in their accounts. Giving a big gift to the account holders, the interest rates have been increased by the Central Government.

This year EPFO will give 8.15 percent interest on the deposited amount. But, to get this interest amount, everything must be fine in your account. If the details in the PF account do not match, you may be deprived of the interest amount. To get the interest amount, it is most important that the account is linked to the Aadhar card. If the UAN account is not seeded with Aadhaar, the money will not come to the PF account. Verification and seeding is mandatory to avail benefits.

Today is the last chance to avail higher pension, so if you have not applied for it yet, you will not be able to apply for it after July 11, 2023. Earlier, the last date to apply was 26 June, which was extended to 11 July. Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) had said on June 26, 2023 that a last opportunity of 15 days is being given.

This time was given to the eligible members for pension to deal with any problem. Along with this, EPFO has given time till 30 September 2023 to the employers to upload the salary details of the employees applying for higher pension. In such a situation, it is expected that members can be given more time to apply for EPS. Let us know whether the date of higher pension application will be extended for the eligible members or not?

The deadline has been extended thrice

The deadline has been extended thrice by the EPFO for the employees to apply for higher pension. However, till 30 September 2023, the employer has been given time to upload the data of the members. In such a situation, more time can be given to eligible pensioners. According to ET’s report, this time can be given keeping in mind the problems of the employees. If there are more problems under EPFO, then the government can extend this time further.

why it is appropriate to consider it as the deadline

According to some experts, if you have not yet applied for higher pension, then you should do so because the deadline has been extended thrice. Apart from this, EPFO will now work on its process. In such a situation, it is appropriate to consider this as the last opportunity. If you are facing any problem in submitting the online application for verification then you can contact the officials at EPFiGMS for resolution.

Apply carefully

If you are going to apply then you should take special care. You should fill the information related to pension from personal information carefully, because if you make any kind of mistake then you can be deprived of higher pension.

The post EPFO Higher Pension Deadline: Will the deadline for higher pension increase once again? 11 july last chance first appeared on Rightsofemployees.com.

EPFO Higher Pension: To clear the confusion regarding higher pension, EPAO has explained how it will calculate how much amount the subscribers will need to transfer in pension.

However, so far EPFO has not given detailed information about the method of calculation of pension, which will be introduced later.

EPFO will present the calculation formula to calculate the amount of pension received after the retirement of the members. For the time being, subscribers eligible for higher pension will be able to calculate their potential liability including interest payable to the Pension Fund.

Subscribers will have three months

EPFO said that PF account holders will have three months to agree to withdraw money from their account or deposit more amount if the contribution is less. At present, pension under EPS-1995 is calculated by multiplying the average of the actual basic pay of the last five years of service with those years and dividing the total by 70.

Higher pension calculation not clear

The application regarding higher pension has been postponed till June 26. There is a lack of clarity on getting higher pension. Many questions have come to the fore that how much pension the subscriber will get will it be calculated or not? At the same time, pension will be calculated from the old system itself or a new system will be added.

What is the rule of higher pension under the new circular

On the other hand, in the new letter under EPFO, it has been said that when the complete information of the subscriber is found eligible for higher pension, then the subscribers will receive a demand letter from EPFO and will be informed that how much amount and interest will be transferred to them. If there is not enough money in the account, then the customers will have to deposit the same amount.

How much contribution has to be given

To get the amount of pension under EPFO, some part has to be deposited under the PF account. Depending on your contribution, an amount ranging from Rs 5000 to Rs 15 thousand is given.

Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has issued an internal circular to its regional offices on how to calculate the dues of subscribers applying for higher PF pension.

According to the circular, 8.33% employer’s share on higher pension with effect from November 16, 1995 or the date when the pensionable salary cap was raised from Rs 6,500 per month to Rs 15,000 per month.

In the 2014 amendment, the government directed that if you contribute to EPS on the basis of actual salary, then the EPFO member will get an additional contribution of 1.16 per cent in EPS on whatever contribution is made to EPS over and above the pensionable salary limit of Rs 15,000. have to contribute.

Explain that every month 12% amount is deducted from the employee’s basic salary and dearness allowance and deposited in the EPF account. The employer also deposits the same amount in the employee’s account. However, the entire contribution of the employer does not go into the EPF account.

A major part of the 12% contribution of the employer goes to the EPF and a part to the EPS account. Employees Pension Scheme 1995 i.e. EPS-95 was implemented on 16 November 1995. Prior to September 1, 2014, there was a cap of Rs 5000/6500 for the maximum contribution in the EPS account. After this the cap was increased to 15,000.

Extended date of application for higher pension

The circular states that the interest to be charged on the arrears as per the above calculation will be the interest earned by the members on their PF. Another circular will be issued soon for the calculation of pension. An EPFO official said that a separate circular will be issued for information on arrears and calculation of pension. Retirement fund body EPFO has extended the application date for opting for higher pension from May 3 to June 26, 2023. EPFO has so far received more than 12 lakh applications for higher pension.

According to the circular, if you fill higher pension for joint application, then after verifying the application with the EPFO office of your area, your salary details are verified with the details present in the EPFO portal. When the verification is done, EPFO will check the remaining money, after that it will proceed to transfer and deposit the order and you will then be selected for higher pension.

Labor Ministry Higher Pension: Pension Scheme is in headlines for the last six months. After the decision of the Supreme Court regarding the facility of more pension in November last year, it is being discussed continuously.

Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has once again extended the deadline for the option of getting more pension under the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS). Amidst all this, the question that is troubling people the most is how will the calculation of higher pension be done… The Labor Ministry has now shared its formula with the people.

Clarification of Ministry of Labor

The Labor Ministry on Wednesday made it clear that it will use an additional 1.16 per cent contribution from the employer’s total contribution of 12 per cent to the PF to calculate the higher pension. This will be in line with the Supreme Court’s decision of 4 November 2022. Along with this, the Ministry of Labor has also told that this step to reduce the burden on the subscribers of the Employees Pension Scheme will be retrospective, that is, this decision will not be applicable from the day of arrival but from the back.

Money will go to pension fund from here

The ministry said in its statement that along with the Employees’ Provident Fund and Other Provisions Act, it has been told in the Social Security Code that contribution cannot be taken from the employees for the pension fund. Keeping this in mind, it has been decided that an additional 1.16 per cent will be taken from the 12 per cent contribution of the employers towards the Pension Fund, which is going to the Provident Fund.

There will be no burden on the employees

Let us tell you that in EPS the employee does not make any contribution on his behalf. Out of the total 12 per cent contribution made by the company, only 8.33 per cent goes to EPS. Whatever amount is more than this in the contribution of the company, it goes to EPF. The Ministry of Labor has clarified that the increased contribution to EPS will also go from the company’s share, which means that there will be no impact on take home salary or in hand salary even if you opt for higher pension.

There will be loss

Although it also has its disadvantages. If you choose a higher pension option, then the amount deposited in PF by the company will be less, which will affect your PF fund. Employees get the benefit of compound interest in PF. Now since part of PF will go to EPS, the benefit of compounding will also reduce. Similarly, the lump sum amount that is received from PF on retirement or already leaving the job, this amount will also be affected if the option of higher pension is selected.

Deadline extended till this date

The deadline for opting for higher pension was ending on 03 May. EPFO has increased this and now interested subscribers can opt for higher pension till 26 June 2023. Its deadline has been extended for the second time. First of all, in an order given on 4 November 2022, the Supreme Court had fixed the deadline till 3 March in this regard. EPFO had then extended the deadline till May 3 to opt for higher pension. Now it has been pushed further.

EPF members may have won a long legal battle in the Supreme Court for higher pension contribution, but they are still far away from getting higher pension. When it comes to the actual implementation of the Supreme Court order, EPFO lags behind on many fronts.

In such a situation, there is a possibility that the deadline for higher pension application for EPFO EPS members should be extended. Let us understand the reason behind extending the application deadline.

According to the report, instead of being proactive, EPFO has mostly made last minute stop gap arrangements and has not provided any clarity in the most important issues. Along with the past contribution of EPF members, clear information has also not been shared about how the future contribution will be calculated. At the same time, EPS members are being told that any member who wants to apply for higher pension should confirm consent to pay or allow deduction from his EPF fund of an undisclosed amount during the online application process.

In the current situation, the EPS member will have to give consent for the higher deduction without knowing how much will be deducted from his EPF and what will be the approximate amount of higher pension he will get in return. Or what will be the calculation rule that EPFO will use. Apart from this, the confusion related to eligibility persists due to no FAQ being issued by EPFO.

The Supreme Court gave EPFO 4 months time till 03 March 2023 to allow EPS members to apply for higher pension. EPFO then came up with an online joint application form for eligible members who were members before 1st September 2014 and continued to be in service on or after 1st September 2014. This form was made available on the EPFO website on 27 February 2023. After this, the deadline for online application has been extended by 2 months to 3 May 2023.

One of the important points of confusion in the Higher Pension application process for eligible EPS members who are in service on or after September 01, 2014 is with regard to the new EPS contribution system. Because, the earlier system has to be changed later. The top court asked the EPFO to stop charging an additional amount of 1.16 per cent on contribution over and above the existing wage limit of Rs 15,000 from employees applying for higher pension and directed the EPFO to put in place a system. However, EPFO has not yet informed the EPS members about this new method or system.

Even if EPFO releases the new system now, EPS members will not have enough time to understand and assess its result, as very little time is left for the May 3 deadline to end. Apart from this, it will not be of any use to those people who have already applied for higher pension. Whereas, the Kerala High Court, in its interim order dated 12 April 2023, has asked the EPFO not to insist on documentary proof, on taking permission proof from the PF commissioner for online joint application. However, EPFO has not given clarity on its implementation.

EPFO should also provide an exit window to EPS members to review and withdraw the application. Especially those people who have already applied without knowing the new contribution system. In such a situation, there is a strong possibility that EPFO may extend the last date of online application for higher pension to May 3, 2023.

Last date to opt for higher pension from EPF: Now less than 10 days are left to apply for higher pension under Employees Pension Scheme (EPS). Now the big question is whether EPFO will extend its deadline.

The last date to apply for higher pension under EPS is March 3, 2023. Most of the employees are demanding to extend its deadline.

Will EPFO extend the deadline?

Many employees want to extend the deadline as there are only a few days left before the deadline and there is a huge list of papers to collect for submission. Till now the employers were waiting for clear instructions but on February 20 the matter became clear. Eligible workers are scrambling to apply before the March 3 deadline, but time is short and work is high. This is the reason why the employees are demanding to extend the deadline.

Process started

Retirement fund body EPFO has started a process for subscribers and their employers to apply jointly to get higher pension under EPS. Earlier, the Supreme Court had said in November 2022 that employees who were members of EPFO on September 1, 2014, can avail higher pension. For this, contribution to EPS from his actual basic salary will be necessary.

These documents have to be given

Eligible EPS member has to visit the nearest local EPFO office and fill the application there. Along with this, documents will also have to be submitted. The application will have to be given in the manner and format specified by the commissioner. The application form for validation must contain a disclaimer as mandated in the previous government notification.

Rule At present, the salary limit for contribution to EPS is Rs 15,000 per month. This means that even if your actual basic salary is Rs 50,000, the contribution to EPS is based on Rs 15,000. Due to this very less money is deposited in EPS. Keeping in mind the decision of the Supreme Court, EPFO has issued a circular on 20 February.

EPFO EPS Guidelines: Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has started the process of applying for more pension under the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS). For this, EPFO has issued guidelines on 20 February 2023.

According to these guidelines, those employees who were entitled to get more pension under the EPS scheme but did not apply for it, will now be able to apply for more pension. According to the recent decision of the Supreme Court, till March 3, 2023, an application can be made to get more pension.

EPFO told that both the employee and the employer will be able to apply jointly for this. In fact, the EPS revision of August 22, 2014 increased the pensionable salary limit from Rs 6,500 per month to Rs 15,000 per month. Also, employees and their employers were allowed to contribute 8.33 per cent of their actual salary to EPS. In November 2022, the Supreme Court upheld the Employees’ Pension (Amendment) Scheme, 2014.

EPFO in an office order has given details about handling of Joint Option Form by its field offices. EPFO said that a facility will be given, for which the URL (Unique Resource Location) will be told soon. After getting this, the Regional PF Commissioner will give information through notice boards and banners for wide public information. According to the order, every application will be registered, logged digitally and a receipt number will be given to the applicant.

It further states that the Officer-in-Charge of the Regional Provident Fund Office concerned will scrutinize each case of joint option on higher pay. After this the applicant will be informed about the decision through e-mail/post and later through SMS. Earlier, EPFO had issued this circular on December 29 to comply with the directions of the Supreme Court. In this circular, information has been given about which employees will get higher pension and how to apply online for it.

The circular states that only those employees are eligible, who have compulsorily
contributed higher wages under the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) scheme and opted for higher pension before retirement. As per the circular, At the same time, the employees who retired before September 1, 2014, without exercising any option, have also been out of its membership. According to the amendment of 2014, only those employees who exercise the option will be given this benefit.

EPFO: Pensioners of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) may be in for a shock. EPFO has come up with a circular, under which pensioners getting more pension may be upset.

EPFO is reviewing the higher pension of the members who retired before September 1, 2014. In fact, the members who did not choose the option of higher pension are still getting higher pension. Now EPFO can cut the pension of such members who get more pension. Excess pension will also be recovered from the members.

Such cases will be re-examined

EPFO in its January 25 circular said that the cases of retired employees who did not opt for higher pension before September 1, 2014 would be reviewed. Those cases will be investigated which are being given more pension. He will not get pension beyond January 2023. In such a case the pension will be restored again. There will be a limit of Rs 5,000 or Rs 6,500 on this. According to the guidelines of EPFO, the employees will now have to deposit money equal to 8.33 percent of their basic salary in EPS. Its maximum limit will be Rs 15,000 per month.

These people will get less pension

The pensioners who did not choose the option of higher pension but even after that they were getting higher pension. Such members will now get less pension. However, before examining such cases, the department will send notices to those members. So that he can prove his case. For reduction of pension also notice will be given to the pensioners first.

The EPFO and the Central Government challenged the decision of the Kerala, Rajasthan and Delhi High Courts in the Supreme Court.

Supreme Court has given a big decision regarding pension. It has said that the provisions contained in the Employees’ Pension Amendment (Scheme), 2014 are lawful and valid. The country’s highest court has canceled the salary limit of Rs 15,000 per month to join the pension fund.

The Supreme Court has said that after the amendment in the scheme, the maximum pensionable salary will have to be kept at 15,000 every month. A bench of the Supreme Court gave this decision. Apart from Chief Justice U U Lalit, two more judges were included in this bench.

The bench said that in the amended scheme, the rule of contribution at the rate of 1.6 percent for the monthly salary amount more than Rs 15,000 for the members has also been quashed. It has said that the additional contribution of 1.6 per cent is beyond the purview of the provisions of the 1952 Act.

The Supreme Court has given four months to EPFO members availing EPS to opt for contribution of 8.33 per cent of their actual salary instead of their pensionable salary. The Supreme Court has amended the orders of the Kerala, Rajasthan and Delhi High Courts.

The Supreme Court has given this decision on the petition of several petitioners including the EPFO and the Central Government. It has said that the fund authorities will have to plan the directions included in the decision within eight weeks. The bench has also said that the employees who have not exercised the option to join the pension scheme will have to exercise the option within six months.

The country’s biggest court has also said that eligible employees who could not join the scheme till the last date should be given additional opportunity for this. This is because the situation has remained unclear after the Kerala, Rajasthan and Delhi High Courts’ decisions on this issue.

The Supreme Court struck down a condition of the 2014 scheme that mandated employees to make an additional 1.6 per cent contribution on salaries above Rs 15,000. The EPFO and the central government challenged the decision of the Kerala, Rajasthan and Delhi High Courts in the Supreme Court.

According to the Employees’ Pension Scheme, 1995, the maximum salary for calculation of pension was Rs.6,500 per month. From employers’ contribution (12 per cent), 8.33 per cent goes into the Employees’ Pension Fund (EPS). A provision was added to the EPS on March 16, 1996. In this, employees and employers were given the option to contribute more to the pension fund.

The Employees’ Pension Scheme was revised in September 2014. Under this, the maximum pensionable salary was capped at Rs 15,000 per month. Members up to September 1, 2014 were given an option to contribute on salary exceeding Rs 15,000 per month. Under this, the employee had to give a joint application with the employer.
