Ticket Price: Everyone loves to watch movies, but expensive tickets sometimes become heavy on the pocket. Especially when it comes to multiplexes, where ticket prices sometimes touch the sky.

But now the Karnataka government has given a big relief to movie lovers. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced that the maximum price of tickets in all cinemas and multiplexes across the state will be Rs 200.

Presenting his 16th budget, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said that the maximum ticket price in all cinema halls and multiplexes across the state will be Rs 200. Not only the ticket price, but the government is also taking many important steps to promote Kannada cinema. The state government is now going to launch its own OTT platform, so that Kannada films and web series can get more viewers.

Government’s own OTT platform

Recently, big names of Kannada film industry like Rakshit Shetty and Rishabh Shetty had complained that big OTT companies are not showing much interest in Kannada content. Many times producers do not get any digital platform for their film or web series. In view of this problem, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has decided to create the state government’s own OTT platform, so that regional cinema can get a new platform.

Rakshit Shetty’s production company ‘Paramvaah Studios’ had to launch its own platform to stream its web series ‘Ekam’ in July 2024 after no major OTT platform showed interest in buying it.

Government initiative to preserve Kannada films

The government is also taking a big step to save the history and culture of Kannada cinema. The Chief Minister announced that the state government will create both digital and non-digital archives at a cost of Rs 3 crore. In this, films that show the social, historical and cultural heritage of Karnataka will be preserved.

Filmmaking is a major economic sector, but till now it did not get industrial status. The Siddaramaiah government has decided to give the cinema sector the status of ‘industry’. This will provide filmmakers with many economic and administrative facilities under the government’s industrial policies.

Plans for new multiplex and film city

The government has also announced the construction of new facilities to promote the film industry in the state. A new multiplex will be built on 2.5 acres of land of Karnataka Film Academy in Nandini Layout, Bengaluru. It will be developed under the PPP (Public-Private Partnership) model.

There are also plans to build an international-standard film city in Mysore. The estimated cost of this project will be ₹500 crore and 150 acres of land has been allotted for it.

New Delhi. The Karnataka government has issued an order to suspend all transactions with the State Bank of India (SBI) and Punjab National Bank (PNB). Both banks are accused of misusing funds from government accounts.

Both these banks are owned by the central government. The Finance Department of the Karnataka government has directed all state departments to close their accounts in these banks and recover their deposits immediately.

The order said, “Accounts held by state government departments, public enterprises, corporations, local bodies, universities and other institutions in the State Bank of India and Punjab National Bank should be terminated immediately. In addition, no further deposits or investments should be made in these banks.” This order has come at a time when there is a tug of war between the Congress and the BJP over the alleged money transfer scam involving the state-run Karnataka Maharishi Valmiki Scheduled Tribe Development Corporation Limited. Let us tell you that Congress is currently in power in Karnataka.

The alleged scam came to light after suicide

The corporation’s accounts superintendent Chandrasekhar P committed suicide on May 26 and left behind a note. The note claimed that ₹187 crore belonging to the corporation was transferred without approval. Of the total amount, ₹88.62 crore was diverted to the accounts of IT companies and a Hyderabad-based cooperative society.

In the order, the state finance department mentioned an alleged fraud involving funds of the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board. It is alleged that the money was withdrawn from Punjab National Bank accounts with the connivance of bank officials. The government said the matter is pending in courts and several crores of rupees are still not refunded.

Similarly, the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board had deposited money in SBI Bank, which was allegedly adjusted against a loan for a private company using forged documents in 2013. This case is also pending in court. The order said the process of closing accounts with both the banks and withdrawing the money should be completed by all departments by September 20 and the deputy secretary should be informed.

A decision of the Karnataka government has become a sore throat for autorickshaw drivers associated with cab aggregators like Ola-Uber.

On December 25, the government ordered regional transport authorities to charge app-based auto aggregators a five per cent convenience fee plus GST for every ride. Auto drivers say that this can cause harm to auto rickshaw drivers and passengers. Ola Uber Drivers and Owners Association (OUDOA) has accused the government of not properly placing the matter before the High Court.

Auto drivers say that the fixed fare does not seem very high, but it is difficult to predict how these companies will charge the convenience fee from the people. He says that Ola-Uber companies were charging very high fees, due to which the government had to intervene. We don’t know how to follow the new order.

According to a report in Media , UDOA chief Tanveer Pasha blamed the Karnataka government for not presenting the matter properly before the Karnataka High Court. Tanveer said that the government should have amended the Karnataka On-Demand Transportation Technology Aggregators Rules, as there is no provision for autorickshaws.

Pasha said that if the Transport Department had given correct information to the High Court, the court would have directed the government to amend the rule. The transport department also did not take the Regional Transport Authority of Bengaluru Urban district on board.

The minimum fare is Rs 30.

The Karnataka government has fixed the fare for autorickshaws. The minimum charge is Rs.30 and above that Rs.15 per kilometer can be charged. Thimmappa, an autorickshaw driver, said that this fixed fare does not seem very high, but it is difficult to estimate how these companies will charge people.

Venkatesh, another autorickshaw driver. Ann said that now only time will tell how the rates will be fixed on each ride and how people will be charged. When contacted a member of the public relations department of Ola Cabs declined to comment on the matter.
