In a significant move aimed at reducing exam-day stress, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued an official public notice on June 12, 2026, introducing candidate-friendly structural changes for the upcoming NEET (UG) 2026 examination scheduled for June 21, 2026.

The updates focus on expanding the testing window and restructuring the physical question paper booklet to improve usability for the lakhs of medical aspirants across India.

Key Revisions Introduced by NTA

1. Extended Examination Window

• New Duration: The exam window has been extended to 195 minutes (3 hours and 15 minutes), up from the traditional 180 minutes.

• Revised Timings: The test will be conducted from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM.

• The Rationalization: The NTA clarified that the additional 15 minutes are specifically provided to absorb mandatory pre-exam administrative formalities (such as invigilator verification and signing attendance sheets). This ensures that biometric and administrative steps do not cut into actual writing time.

2. Doubled Rough-Work Space

• Page Allocation: The space for calculations and rough work has been doubled from two pages to four pages.

• Strategic Placement: Instead of clustering all rough-work pages exclusively at the back of the booklet, the layout has been re-engineered:

  • Two pages will be placed immediately after the initial instruction page.

  • Two pages will remain at the very end of the booklet.

• Inclusivity: The agency explicitly noted that this split-page design will resolve spatial constraints and is deliberately optimized to accommodate left-handed students who previously reported ergonomic difficulties with the rigid back-page layout.
