Earlier, it was mandatory to submit a marriage certificate to add the name of the husband or wife in the passport. This process used to be difficult especially in those states where getting a certificate after marriage is not a common practice-like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh.

Now the Ministry of External Affairs has abolished this compulsion and has recognized the Self Declaration. This means that now you will get the facility to add your spouse’s name in your passport by just filling a simple form with some necessary information and photo.

Annexure J will now be your support

Under the new system, a document called Annexure J has been introduced, which will include a joint photograph of both of you, and some basic information along with your signature. This form will act as a declaration and will be considered as proof of marriage for the passport authority.

The process of adding spouse’s name in passport has now become very easy. Till now, marriage registration was required to add the name. Usually people who do traditional marriages in India do not get registered.

In such a situation, they have to face trouble to get the name added in the passport. Now the government has made this process easy. Now you will be able to add the name of the spouse in the passport without marriage certificate. For this, you just have to share a photo of both of you and sign it jointly. In this way, the self-attested photo of the marriage will be considered as a document and on its basis the name of the spouse will be added in the passport.

For this, the option of Annexure J has been given by the Ministry of External Affairs. Now you will go to Annexure J and upload your wedding photo or any other joint photo with both of you. This will be accepted as a certificate. Usually, registering marriages is a complicated process and people keep it pending for years to avoid it. Then whenever there is a need for a job transfer or passport etc., they have to face problems. Now the Ministry of External Affairs has completely removed the problem of adding the name of the husband or wife in the passport.

Actually, in many states like Maharashtra, marriage registration is done easily and people get this process done immediately after marriage. But such is not the case in many North Indian states like UP, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana. Here people usually do not get their marriages registered and documents are not available at the time of need.

In view of such cases, the Ministry of External Affairs has provided the facility of joint photo declaration as an option. Under this, those applying for passport will have to tell their names. After this, the name of their husband or wife will have to be entered. Then the joint photo will have to be uploaded by going to Annexure J and both of them will also have to sign there.

Here it has to be mentioned that they are together as a married couple. Apart from this, the applicant has to tell that the passport should be issued only after including the name of his or her husband or wife. Under the option given in Annexure J, signatures have to be made along with the joint photograph.

Apart from this, one has to write his or her place and the date of signing. Apart from this, one has to mention his or her name, Aadhaar card number, voter ID number and passport number etc. The government believes that if the documents of both are correct and they have a photo, then there is no problem in getting the passport attested. This will ensure complete validity and people can also be saved from complications.

Passport New Rule: Now foreign travel may be a bit difficult for those born after October 1, 2023. Actually, the central government has changed the passport rules. Under this, birth certificate will be the only proof of date of birth for people born on or after October 1, 2023 to apply for passport. To implement this, the government has amended the Passport Rules, 1980.

What is the new rule?

However, according to the notification issued by the government, this rule will come into effect only when it is published in the official gazette. Under the new rules, only the birth certificate issued by the Registrar of Births and Deaths, Municipal Corporation, or any other institution authorized under the Birth-Death Registration Act, 1969 will be considered valid.

Currently, people applying for passport born before 1 October 2023 can submit other documents like driving license, school leaving certificate to prove their date of birth. The government said in its notification that this change has been made with the aim of making the passport application process more organized and transparent.

How many types of passports are issued by the Indian Government?

Let us tell you that passport is a document through which the Government of India allows its citizens to travel abroad. The Government of India issues a total of four types of passports and these are of four different colors. Each color has its own special significance, because it is issued to different categories of people.

Blue Passport – It is issued to the general citizens of India. Through this passport, Indian citizens can travel abroad for personal reasons.

Orange Passport – It is issued to Indian citizens who go abroad to work as migrant workers.

White Passport – This is a type of official passport, which is issued to diplomats and high-ranking officials of the Government of India.

Maroon Passport – This passport is issued to Indian government officials and diplomats for special official purposes.

There is good news for passport applicants. Now mobile van facility will also be available for applying for passport. Its maximum benefit will be received by those who submit their applications in Post Office Passport Seva Kendras of 13 districts of Uttar Pradesh connected to Ghaziabad Regional Passport Office. Till now there is a long waiting period for submitting the form at Post Office Passport Seva Kendra present in these districts.

Passports of people from 13 districts are made from Ghaziabad passport office. More than two thousand people are given a chance to apply daily. At the same time, more than one thousand passports are issued daily. For the people of other districts, passport service centers (POPSK) have also been opened in post offices by the Ministry of External Affairs. Due to less number of appointments at these POPSK, there is a long waiting period.

To overcome this problem of applicants, a passport mobile van has been started by the Ministry of External Affairs. On Thursday, regional passport officer Anuj Swaroop flagged off this van. He said that this van will be sent to those districts where there is a long waiting period for appointments at POPSK. People will be able to directly submit their application forms by reaching the van in those districts.

The number of pending files will be reduced:Due to less appointments at POPSK, the files here remain pending. After the form is submitted at POPSK, the entire process of verification is completed. After this, the file is sent to the main passport office. After verification here, further action is taken. Many times, due to the documents not being correct, this file goes into the pending category. The department is disposing of these files on the basis of priority.

Information will be given before the van arrives

The district where the passport mobile van will go will be informed in advance so that the applicants can reach there and submit their applications. Efforts are being made to keep this van for a longer time in those districts where the appointment date for submitting the form is being given after several months.

These are made for 13 districts including Gautam Buddha Nagar

Agra, Aligarh, Baghpat, Bulandshahar, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad, Hathras, Mathura, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Hapur, Shamli, Saharanpur.

Regional Passport Officer Anuj Swaroop said, “Efforts are being made to issue passports to applicants soon. Applicants from other districts will get relief through passport mobile van. Their applications will be submitted soon and passports will be issued.”
