Tatkal tickets will not be booked without Aadhaar verification, rule applicable from July 1

Taking a big decision on Wednesday, the Railway Ministry has said that now users will not be able to book Tatkal train tickets without Aadhar Authentication.

It was clarified by the ministry that this big change (Tatkal Ticket Booking Rule Change) regarding ticket booking will be implemented from July 1, 2025. It is worth noting that recently Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had said through a post on his Twitter account (now X) that these rules would be implemented soon.

Railway Ministry issued circular

In a circular issued by the Railway Ministry on June 10, 2025, while sharing information with all railway zones, it has been said that this decision has been taken to ensure that the general users can get the benefit of the Tatkal scheme. It has been said that from July 01, 2025, while only Aadhaar verified users will be able to book tickets through IRCTC website or app, after this, Aadhaar-based OTP authentication will also be made mandatory for Tatkal Booking from July 15, 2025.

Apart from this, railway ticket agents will also not be able to book tickets for 30 minutes before the Tatkal ticket booking opens. This time will be from 10:00 am to 10:30 am for AC class and from 11:00 am to 11:30 am for non-AC class.

Railway Minister had given indications of change

Let us tell you that on June 4, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had said through a social media post that Indian Railways will soon start using e-Aadhaar authentication to book Tatkal tickets. Explaining its benefits in his post, he wrote that through this system, the genuine users of the railways will be helped in getting confirmed tickets at the time of need. It is expected that this system can be started by the end of this month. Now the Railway Ministry has announced it and this process will be implemented from July 1.

Only 10% users are Aadhaar verified!

According to IRCTC, the number of its users in the country is more than 13 crore, but the surprising thing is that only 10 percent of these users are Aadhaar verified. In such a situation, with the aim of making the Tatkal ticket booking process stronger, Indian Railways has made the rules strict and allowed only Aadhaar verified IRCTC accounts to do Online Tatkal Ticket Booking.

Government strict on fake IDs:

In a report that came a few days ago, it was told that after continuous irregularities were found in Tatkal Ticket booking, the government had started cracking down on users with fake IDs. This can also be estimated from the fact that IRCTC has blocked 3.5 crore fake user IDs in the last one year, due to which the congestion of the system on its platform has reduced to a great extent. Now the Railway Ministry is taking a big step in this direction and implementing the rule of Aadhaar authentication.
