Why did the change happen?

Recently, the Secondary Education Department promoted LT and lecturer grade teachers to the post of Principal. However, only about 30 percent of the teachers joined the new posts. Most of the teachers were demanding posting in schools located near their homes. Citing family circumstances and health reasons, many teachers had also applied for amendment in their transfer.

What is the new system?

The guidelines issued by the government state that teachers (or their dependents) suffering from disability, serious illness or cancer will be posted in the school of their choice. If the school sought is not available, then posting will be given in the nearest school on the basis of seniority. Teachers who have less than two years of service will also be given a place according to their priority.

There was a stir in the department

The Special Secretary has ordered the Director of Secondary Education to make postings as per the new guidelines. He also asked why some employees were first made to join and then transferred even after the Directorate sent the list to the government. Expressing displeasure over this, he has sought information about the guilty officers. It is believed that the government can also take action against the responsible officers in this matter.
