School Holiday News: Monsoon has become active in many parts of the country. Due to this, heavy rains are falling in many parts of the country. Along with South India, heavy rains are also wreaking havoc in the North-Eastern parts of the country. This has had a widespread impact on normal life.
After the activation of the southwest monsoon, heavy rains are falling from south to west. Due to the formation of a deep depression after a low pressure in the Bay of Bengal, heavy rains are also falling in northeast India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rains in many parts of northeast India. A period of heavy rains has also started in the coastal areas of Karnataka. Landslides have occurred at
many places due to continuous heavy rains from northeast to south India. Traffic on the highway has been stopped due to landslides in Mizoram. In view of the weather conditions in the state capital Aizawl, a holiday was declared in schools on Friday, May 30, 2025. On the other hand, a girl died due to a wall collapse in Karnataka.
Incessant rains in Mizoram have badly affected the normal life of the people. All schools in Aizawl district remained closed for the second consecutive day on Friday due to heavy rains in the state since Wednesday. Officials said that incidents of landslides have also been reported in many parts of the state due to the rain. A notification issued by Aizawl Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority Lalhariatpuiya said that due to heavy rains for the last several hours, all schools in Aizawl district have been directed to remain closed on Friday. The impact of the rain was also felt in other districts of the state. Langatlai district recorded the highest rainfall of 112.50 mm, while Serchhip received 70 mm, Kolasib 63.70 mm and Aizawl 63.60 mm.
Landslides at several places in Mizoram
According to officials of the state Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Department, the rains caused landslides at several places in Aizawl and other areas, disrupting traffic on the highway. However, it is a matter of relief that there is no report of any loss of life in any incident so far. A building similar to Assam was swept away due to a landslide in Mauchar village of Aizawl district in the early hours of Friday.
The area is located near the border of Assam and Manipur. Officials said that no one was injured in the incident. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mizoram and adjoining areas between May 29 and June 1.
Disaster situation in coastal Karnataka
Heavy rains in coastal Karnataka triggered a landslide in Ullal taluk, killing a six-year-old girl while trapping several others under the debris, officials said on Friday. Landslides in residential areas occurred in two separate incidents on Thursday. Five people were buried under the debris after a hill collapsed in Montepadavu area. In another incident, a six-year-old girl, Fatima Naeem, died after a wall collapsed on her house in Deralkaate area of Mangaluru on Friday morning. Officials said an alert has been issued for sensitive areas due to incessant rains in the area.
