America Visa- America has cancelled the visas of more than 6000 international students. The investigation found that some of them broke the law, some were staying even after their visas expired, while some were involved in serious crimes.
Of the 6,000 visas revoked in the US, nearly two-thirds, or about 4,000 visa holders, were involved in crimes. These include assault, theft, and drunk driving.
The US State Department has confirmed that some of the cases were also related to terrorism. More than 1.1 million foreign students were studying in US colleges in 2023-24.
The government is concerned that some people are abusing education visas. For this reason, the visa rules are being tightened.
200 to 300 visa holders linked to terrorism
The US has revoked 200 to 300 student visas due to terrorism-related cases. The visas were revoked under a section of the Immigration and Nationality Act that deals with terrorism and security. Details of these cases have not been made public.
Officials say these incidents not only violated American laws, but also posed a threat to the safety of college campuses and the general public.
The US government is continuously tightening the process of granting visas to international students. A few days ago, the US State Department announced the closure of the Visa Drop Box facility i.e. Interview Waiver Program (IWP) from September 2.
