Increase toll rates: If you frequently travel to Delhi, Noida, or Agra via the Yamuna Expressway, your pocket may be burdened in the coming days. The company operating the expressway has submitted a proposal to the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) to increase toll rates by approximately 5%. If the proposal is approved, traveling on the Yamuna Expressway will become more expensive for all vehicles, including cars, buses, and trucks.

According to reports, the last toll rate increase on the expressway was in October 2024. At that time, the toll rate was approximately 3.78%. Now, preparations are underway to implement new rates once again. Toll collection on the Yamuna Expressway is handled by Jaiprakash Associates Limited (JAL). The company has proposed the toll increase, citing increased safety, maintenance, and operational costs.

How much could toll rates increase?

According to the proposed new rates, tolls could become more expensive for all categories, from two-wheelers to heavy vehicles. The potential new rates could be as follows.

Two-wheelers: Increased from ₹247.5 to ₹256.16
Car/Jeep: Increased from ₹486.75 to ₹503.79
Light Commercial Vehicles: Increased from ₹759 to ₹785.57
Bus/Truck: Increased from ₹1542.75 to ₹1596.75
Heavy Vehicles: Increased from ₹2351.25 to ₹2433.54

Why is the increase necessary?

The Yamuna Expressway management states that expenses for road safety, repairs, and modern facilities are constantly increasing. The number of vehicles on the expressway has increased rapidly, leading to increased maintenance costs. According to officials, the toll rate revision has become necessary to maintain the expressway’s improved safety and facilities.

Traffic will increase further from Jewar Airport

Experts believe that after the opening of the Noida International Airport, traffic on the Yamuna Expressway will increase manifold. This will require additional resources to maintain the expressway’s safety. This is why the government is currently preparing to increase the toll.

Travelers’ concerns may increase

However, the news of the toll increase has increased the concerns of daily commuters. Especially those traveling between Delhi-NCR and Agra and Noida may have to bear higher monthly expenses.
