INDIA Bloc Meet In Delhi: The constituents of the opposition ‘India’ alliance will meet on Monday (June 8) to discuss a strategy to take on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and move forward unitedly. Top leaders of 23 opposition parties, including Congress’s Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, Trinamool Congress’s Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)’s Tejashwi Yadav and Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray, are likely to attend the meeting to be held at the Constitution Club in the national capital.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said on Sunday that 23 political parties have confirmed their participation in the meeting of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INIA). Ramesh said that some political parties have expressed their inability to attend this special meeting due to their own reasons. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are unlikely to attend the meeting, while the Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) is likely to participate as a new constituent of the alliance.
The AAP has already publicly distanced itself from the alliance, while the DMK has announced its decision to boycott the meeting after the Congress broke ties with it in Tamil Nadu and joined the TVK-led government. The alliance will discuss its future strategy.
Ahead of upcoming state elections and the 2029 Lok Sabha elections , it will attempt to present itself as a united front to confront the Modi government on national issues. The Trinamool Congress’s recent defeat in West Bengal has also forced the opposition alliance to unite to counter the BJP’s growing influence in the country. Previously, the ‘India’ alliance officially met in June 2024.
Poster war before the meeting
Ahead of the India Block meeting in Delhi today, posters were found pasted at major intersections in the capital. These contained statements by leaders of constituent parties about the Congress leadership. Posters targeting the Congress and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, were put up at several roundabouts in Delhi. These posters featured statements by opposition leaders, including NCP-SCP chief Sharad Pawar, TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin, and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, about Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party.
Mamata Banerjee met Kejriwal
Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee met Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal in the national capital on Sunday, a day before the opposition alliance’s meeting. The TMC described the meeting as cordial and said the two leaders discussed the way forward.
In view of the changing power dynamics following the defeat of regional parties TMC and DMK in the recent assembly elections, 23 political parties of India will meet on Monday to re-formulate their strategy to counter the BJP and iron out differences.
The TMC also called for unity and a better future in 2029, an apparent reference to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The post said, “When the people of India stand united, no force on earth will be able to stop their march towards justice, dignity, and a better future in 2029.”
Mamata Banerjee is in Delhi to attend the India meeting. This meeting between Mamata Banerjee and Kejriwal comes months after the Aam Aadmi Party announced its separation from India. The AAP is unlikely to participate in Monday’s meeting.

The meeting comes amid strained relations between some of the opposition alliance’s constituents, with the DMK abstaining from attending the meeting due to the Congress’ betrayal in Tamil Nadu. The CPI(M) has expressed its displeasure at allegations by top Congress leaders that the Left parties in Kerala colluded with the BJP.
The TMC has maintained direct contact with both Kejriwal and the AAP. Leaders of the two parties have met on several occasions over the past two years, including during opposition outreach efforts after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and before major opposition consultations. The TMC has also supported Kejriwal and the AAP in their confrontations with the central government.
