Air India on Sunday said it will temporarily reduce 118 weekly flights operated by narrowbody aircraft on 19 routes and suspend services on three routes.
The Tata Group-owned airline had a few days ago said it will temporarily cut its international flights operated by widebody aircraft by 15 per cent. The airline said in a statement that it is going to temporarily reduce its total narrowbody fleet by less than 5 per cent.
According to the statement, ‘This voluntary decision will lead to temporary suspension of Air India services on three routes and reduction in frequency on 19 routes. These changes will remain effective at least till July 15, 2025.’ 7 times a week flights on three routes (Bengaluru-Singapore, Pune-Singapore and Mumbai-Bagdogra AI551/552) will remain suspended at least till July 15. The number of flights will be reduced on several other routes including Delhi-Bengaluru and Delhi-Mumbai.
To strengthen the stability of network operation
According to the airline, the reduction is aimed at strengthening the stability of Air India’s network operations and reducing last minute inconvenience to passengers. At the same time, Air India Group is avoiding some airfields in West Asia, which is leading to longer duration of flights, while Air India Express is canceling some services due to the changing situation. The group has 2 airlines (Air India and Air India Express). Air India Express operates a significant portion of services in West Asia with narrow body aircraft.
