New Delhi. Many highways and expressways are being built in the country. One of these expressways will pass through the most difficult places. This expressway will pass through the world’s second largest desert Thar and for about 650 kilometers you will see only sand on both sides.
This expressway is also considered to be the second longest road in the country. The National Highway Authority has completed most of its work and it is expected to be operational by December this year.
The route we are talking about is a part of the Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway. This expressway runs from Punjab to Gujarat and builds an industrial corridor between the two cities. This expressway is being built in three sections. Its largest part is passing through Rajasthan, which is being built through the Thar desert. In this way, it can be said that this time NHAI is building the expressway by cutting through the desert.
Why the route is considered difficult
The total length of the Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway is 1,257 km, which is being made of 6 to 8 lanes. Its largest section is passing through Rajasthan. In Rajasthan, it enters from Sangaria town of Hanumangarh district and passes through Bikaner, Jodhpur, Barmer and ends near Sanchore town of Jalore district. To cross this entire route, a distance of about 655 km has to be covered, most of which passes through the desert. In fact, Rajasthan has 12 districts with the most desert areas, out of which this route is passing through 5 districts.
Why is this expressway special?
It currently takes about 26 hours to travel from Amritsar in Punjab to Jamnagar in Gujarat, but after the construction of this expressway, this distance will be covered in just 12 to 13 hours. Not only this, currently it takes up to 12 hours to cross only the Rajasthan section, whereas after the expressway is ready, the entire journey will be completed in 12 hours. Apart from Rajasthan, this expressway will also pass through many districts of Punjab, Haryana and Gujarat.
Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway is being built near the Pakistan
border. This expressway will not only improve connectivity between these two industrial cities, but will also make the journey from Gujarat to Kashmir easier. Actually, this expressway will also be connected to the Delhi-Katra Expressway, which is passing near Amritsar. In this way, there will be direct road connectivity from Gujarat to Katra via Amritsar and then to Kashmir. It will cost around 80 thousand crore rupees to build it.
