The Baal Aadhaar Card is a critical identity document, starting a child’s official identity right from birth. The thing is, this whole process is free, and it is mandatory for accessing tons of government benefits and eventually, school admissions.

Here are the  notes on the Baal Aadhaar (Blue Aadhaar) process:

What is the Baal Aadhaar Card?

  • Target Group: Children below the age of five years.

  • Color: Unlike the regular white/yellow Aadhaar, the Baal Aadhaar is distinctly blue.

  • Biometrics: Here’s the kicker—no biometric information (fingerprints or iris scans) is collected. They only take a photograph of the child.

  • The Link: The child’s card is mandatorily linked to the Aadhaar card of either the mother or the father (or a legal guardian). One parent must be present for authentication.

  • Validity: The card is technically valid, but it becomes invalid at age five unless updated.

Mandatory Biometric Updates (MBU)

This is a non-negotiable part of the process. X is the age limit. And then the biometric update follows.

Age Requirement Note
5 Years Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU). Biometrics (ten fingers, iris scan, and face photo) must be captured for the first time. The blue card is invalidated until this update is done. This update is also free of charge.
15 Years Mandatory Second Biometric Update. A fresh set of all biometrics must be captured again to maintain the card’s validity. You will be alerted via the registered mobile number.

Go to the center on your scheduled date (or just walk in, if allowed) with the child and all original documents.

  • Fill the Form: Obtain and accurately fill out the Aadhaar Enrolment Form (specifically the one for children 0-5 years).

  • Submit Documents: Hand over the required documents to the executive.

  • Parent Biometrics: The parent whose Aadhaar is linked must provide their biometric authentication (fingerprint/iris) to verify the application.

  • Child’s Photo: The executive will take the child’s photograph. No fingerprints or iris scans are taken.

  • Acknowledgement Slip: Collect the acknowledgement slip. This slip contains the 28-digit Enrolment ID (EID), which is critical for tracking the card’s status.
