When does Tatkal booking start?
As per IRCTC rules, Tatkal ticket booking starts at different times every day for two categories:
AC Class Booking: Starts from 10 am
Sleeper Class Booking: Starts from 11 am
Both these slots have tremendous traffic and the seats get full in a few minutes.

How long before booking login?
The biggest question in Tatkal ticket booking is when to login?
Best time: 3 to 5 minutes before scheduled time
ie if you want to book AC ticket, login between 9:55 AM to 9:57 AM. At the same time, login between 10:55 to 10:57
for sleeper class .
Why not login early?
If you login before 10-15 minutes, IRCTC session may time-out and you may have to login again before the window opens. This will waste your precious time.
Why don’t you login late?
If you log in a minute or two before the booking time, the website may hang due to traffic and you will not be able to log in.
