When will the new electricity bill rules come into effect?
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that the new rule will come into effect from August 1, 2025, but its effect will be visible only from the bill of July. That is, this month you can use up to 125 units of electricity free of cost.
What will happen if 126 units of electricity are used?
The government has not yet clarified whether the full bill will have to be paid for using 126 units of electricity or only the additional unit. But it is believed that electricity will be free up to 125 units and the bill for units after that will be charged at the normal rate.
At what rate is the electricity bill now?
Currently, under the Kutir Jyoti Yojana, electricity is being provided at the rate of Rs 1.97 per unit to consumers in rural areas and Rs 2.52 per unit to other domestic consumers. In urban areas, this rate is Rs 7.57 per unit. But after the subsidy from the Bihar government, it is Rs 4.52 per unit.
Will the government also promote solar power?
The next step of the government is to promote solar energy. In the next 3 years, the government will take consent from every consumer and install solar panels on their roof or nearby public place. This will further strengthen the power supply.
Will the government also pay for the cost of solar panels?
Under the Kutir Jyoti Yojana, the government will bear the entire cost of installing solar panels for extremely poor families. Other people will also get financial assistance from the government.
The government’s goal is to generate up to 10,000 MW of solar energy in Bihar in the next three years.
