When you buy a two-wheeler, four-wheeler or any vehicle, you get a registration certificate i.e. RC. The RC is your official proof that you are the owner of the vehicle. It is very important to carry the RC with you when you are on the road, whether in the city or traveling.

You must have noticed that if you are stopped by the traffic police, they especially ask for two things – your driving license and RC. The good thing is that even if your RC is lost or misplaced, you can still download your RC online. It can be downloaded very easily through the Vahan portal.

what is rc

The registration certificate or RC is a document that proves that your vehicle is registered in your name. It is issued by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) and shows key details like your vehicle’s registration number, engine and chassis number and ownership details. The RC can also be referred to when you are applying for a loan, intend to sell your vehicle or simply want to check if it is legally yours. Digital RCs downloaded from official government apps like DigiLocker and mParivahan are legally valid and accepted by traffic authorities.
