The Delhi government has given a big shock to electricity consumers. In the months of May and June, when the heat is at its peak, the electricity bill is also being increased for the people of Delhi.
Electricity bills are going to increase by 7 to 10% in May and June 2025. The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission has given permission to the power companies to increase the electricity bill. This decision will have a direct impact on the pockets of consumers.
This is the reason for the increase in Delhi electricity bill
The Delhi government has given a big shock to the people of Delhi by increasing the electricity bill. The reason behind this is said to be the amendment in the Power Purchase Adjustment Cost (PPAC). This fee is charged by the power generation companies from the consumers to cover the increasing cost of coal, gas or other fuels.
Power companies say that coal and gas prices have increased globally, due to which power generation has become expensive. The heat increases in the months of May and June, due to which the demand for electricity also increases, due to which the discom has to buy electricity at expensive rates. The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission has allowed the power purchase adjustment charge (PPAC) of October-December 2024 to be recovered in May-June 2025. Due to which the electricity bills of the customers will increase by 7 to 10%.
How much will your electricity bill increase
The increase in electricity bills for Delhi residents will vary depending on their consumption. For example
, if you consume from zero to 200 units, then due to the subsidy scheme of the Delhi government, consumers who consume up to 200 units of electricity will not have to pay any additional charges. That is, the electricity bill of such consumers will be minimal or zero.
– Similarly, consumers who consume between 200 to 400 units of electricity. So for them, electricity rates can be charged at Rs 6.11 (BRPL), Rs 6.18 (BYPL), or Rs 6.20 (TPDDL) per unit. That is, consumers who consume 400 units may have to pay an additional amount of Rs 75 to Rs 100.
– Consumers whose electricity consumption is between 400 to 1200 units can see an increase of Rs 200 to Rs 300 in their electricity bills.
– Consumers who consume more than 1200 units of electricity may have to pay up to Rs 11 per unit.
