The FASTag Annual Pass 2026 is now a top tool for frequent travelers. It allows private vehicle owners to save big on toll costs. Specifically, you pay one small fee instead of paying at every gate. Now, the Govt has clarified who can and cannot use this pass.
FASTag Annual Pass: Only for Private Cars
First, this new pass is strictly for non-commercial vehicles like cars and jeeps. Specifically, it was launched on August 15, 2025, to help daily commuters. Over 42 lakh people have already activated their passes by early 2026.
Later, the system checks your vehicle type using the national VAHAN database. Therefore, only white-plate private cars can get this benefit right now. In fact, if you use it on a commercial van, the pass will stop working.
No Annual Pass for Taxis and Cabs
Then, the Govt confirmed that taxis and Ola/Uber cabs are not eligible. Specifically, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said this move is “not under consideration.” Commercial drivers must continue to pay the standard per-trip or monthly fees.
Therefore, fleet owners cannot use the ₹3,000 pass to cut their business costs. In fact, commercial vehicles already have other discount rules based on their local district. Thus, the annual pass stays as a gift for private families only.
How the ₹3,000 Annual Pass Works
Next, the math for the annual pass is very simple for users. You pay a one-time fee of ₹3,000 for your existing FASTag. Specifically, this covers 200 trips or one full year of travel.
Therefore, each toll crossing costs you just ₹15 on average with this pass. In fact, the usual toll for 200 trips could cost over ₹15,000 otherwise. Thus, you save nearly 80% on your highway travel costs in 2026.
| Feature | Details |
| One-Time Cost | ₹3,000 |
| Max Trips | 200 |

No Exemption for Advocates or Media
Meanwhile, some groups asked for free travel or special FASTags in 2026. Specifically, advocates and media professionals requested toll exemptions for their work. The Ministry has now rejected these plans in the Lok Sabha.
Therefore, lawyers and journalists must pay tolls like every other citizen. In fact, exemptions are only for top dignitaries and emergency vehicles like ambulances. Thus, having a “Press” or “Advocate” sticker does not grant free highway access.
The Truth: Why Tech Blocks Misuse
Indeed, you cannot “trick” the system to get this cheap pass. Specifically, the NETC platform uses AI to monitor every single crossing. Before you buy the pass, the system validates your FASTag ID and plate.
Therefore, even a small mismatch in the VAHAN record will block your payment. In fact, each pass is linked to one specific vehicle registration number. Finally, the AI tracks your 200-trip limit in real-time to prevent any fraud.
What This Means for You
Now, you can plan your 2026 road trips with a fixed budget. If you travel more than 40 times a year, the pass is worth it. Specifically, download the Rajmargyatra app to check your eligibility today. Use this pass only on National Highways, as state roads may still charge you.![]()
