Free Electricity: The Himachal Pradesh government has made it clear that the domestic electricity consumers of the state will continue to get free electricity up to 125 units per month as before. The government has released new rates of electricity subsidy, ending uncertainty and speculation on the issue.
The state government has announced that around 22 lakh domestic consumers will continue to get subsidy. However, after the Electricity Regulatory Commission reduced the tariffs by 15 paise per unit, the subsidy amount has also been reduced slightly in the same proportion. However, the tariffs already fixed for 2024-25 will continue to be applicable this year as well.
Consumers who consume more than 300 units of electricity per month will no longer get any major relief. The government has removed the subsidy of ₹ 1 per unit being given to this category of consumers. Now these consumers will have to pay the full price of electricity at ₹ 5.90 per unit.
Energy Secretary Rakesh Kanwar has issued instructions to the Managing Director of the Electricity Board, Sandeep Kumar in this regard. According to the new orders, electricity bills for the consumption of the month of April will be issued in May as per these new rates.
Relief to commercial and industrial consumers
This time relief has been given not only to domestic but also to commercial and industrial consumers. Commercial rates have been reduced by 12 paise per unit and industrial rates by 20 paise per unit. However, no change has been made in the fixed demand charge.
