GMR Airports starts duty-free shops at Delhi airport, expects higher profits in new business

GMR Airports has started operating duty-free shops (custom shops) at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. The national capital’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) is the country’s largest airport.

It is operated by Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), a consortium led by the GMR Group. GMR Airports said in a stock exchange notice on Monday, “The company has started operating duty-free shops at Indira Gandhi International Airport (New Delhi) from 12 midnight on July 28, 2025.”

Higher profits expected in high-margin non-aeronautical business

Duty-free shops (custom shops) are expected to give the company more profit, especially in the high-margin non-aeronautical business. Earlier, another unit was operating these shops. GMR Airports emerged as the selected bidder to develop, operate, manage and maintain duty-free operations in August last year. It also operates custom shops at Hyderabad, Goa and Kannur airports.

The company’s shares closed with a decline on Monday

Shares of GMR Airports closed with a decline on Monday. Today, the company’s shares closed at Rs 89.66, down by Rs 0.24 (0.27%) on the BSE. During today’s trading, the company’s shares touched an intraday high of Rs 91.59 and an intraday low of Rs 89.13. The company’s 52-week high of Rs 103.70 and 52-week low of Rs 67.75 on the BSE. According to BSE data, the current market cap of GMR Airports is Rs 94,671.78 crore.
