The Maharashtra government has suspended 26.34 lakh people from the “Chief Minister Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana”. According to a statement issued by the state’s Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare, cases of receiving benefits despite being found ineligible in the verification process had come to the fore.
Let us tell you that the Maharashtra government had approved the launch of the “Chief Minister Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana” scheme in June 2024 to provide financial assistance to women in the state. Under this scheme, eligible women between 21 and 65 years of age in Maharashtra are given financial assistance of Rs 1500 every month.
What kind of cases came to light during the investigation
Aditi Tatkare told X, “It was found that some beneficiaries were availing benefits of multiple schemes, some families had more than 2 beneficiaries and in some cases even men had applied for the scheme. The Women and Child Development Department had sought information from all government departments to confirm the eligibility of all the applicants. Following which, the Information and Technology Department informed that about 26.34 lakh beneficiaries were availing benefits despite being ineligible.”
People found eligible in the investigation will get the benefit again
The benefits of 26.34 lakh ineligible applicants have been temporarily suspended from June 2025.
