LPG cylinder free: There are many states in the country where customers get free LPG cylinders on different occasions. For example, the Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh gives free LPG cylinders to the beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana on occasions like Holi or Diwali.
However, now the new scheme on which the Andhra Pradesh government is working will give beneficiaries a free LPG cylinder in every quarter of a financial year. Let us understand this scheme in detail.
What is the government’s plan
According to the Times of India report, the Andhra Pradesh government has decided to adopt the Direct Beneficiary Transfer (DBT) system to implement the free LPG cylinder scheme. The DBT system will initially be launched in the state’s NTR and Guntur districts as a pilot project. The government has decided to implement this scheme across the state only after studying the results of the pilot project.
The plan was announced in November last year
The Andhra Pradesh government launched a scheme for free LPG cylinders in the month of November last year. The government had promised to give one cylinder free in every quarter of the financial year. According to the current guidelines of the scheme, consumers do not need to pay the price of the cylinder to the distributor. Let us tell you that this scheme is for BPL card holders.
How the scheme will work
Under the scheme, distributors will supply cylinders without charging any amount from its beneficiaries. The state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with oil companies to ensure smooth supply of LPG cylinders, promising to pay the full amount immediately after the booking is completed every quarter. The Ministry of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, acting as the nodal agency, believes that this is the best way to implement the free cylinder scheme as it will be transparent.
