The monsoon season in India has brought more trouble than relief. Many parts of the country are facing the brunt of rain, floods and landslides. Somewhere the rivers are in spate, somewhere the mountains are cracking.
From the capital Delhi to Gujarat, Maharashtra, Himachal, Uttarakhand, Bihar and UP, the monsoon has shown its strength everywhere. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain in many states even today.
Himachal Pradesh: Cloudburst in Dharamshala, workers swept away, chaos.
Cloudburst in Himachal’s Dharamshala has caused devastation. Many workers working in a hydropower project were swept away in the flash floods, out of which five bodies have been recovered. The search for the rest is on. Incidents of landslides have also been reported in many areas of the state.
Uttarakhand: Mountain cracked in Rudraprayag, Kedarnath Yatra stopped.
After heavy rains in Munkatiya area of Rudraprayag, the mountain suddenly started cracking. Rocks started falling on the highway due to which the pilgrims going to Kedarnath were stopped at Sonprayag. Landslides and waterlogging are prevalent at many places in the entire state.
Gujarat: Surat-Navsari submerged, Cauvery river in spate
Cities like Ahmedabad, Surat and Navsari are badly affected due to the continuous heavy rains in Gujarat. The water level of Cauvery river in Navsari has crossed the danger mark, due to which the temples situated on the banks have been submerged in water. The administration has appealed to the people not to go to the river bank.
Maharashtra: Yellow alert in Mumbai-Palghar, rivers in spate
Due to heavy rains in Buldhana, the Kanchen Ganga river is in spate, causing waterlogging on the Mumbai-Nagpur highway. Cars drowned, shops flooded. Yellow alert is issued in Mumbai, Raigad, Thane and Palghar and heavy rain is expected for the next 24 hours.
Bihar: Danger of lightning, orange alert in many districts
Monsoon has become fully active in Bihar. There is a danger of heavy rain and lightning in many districts including West Champaran, Begusarai, Bhagalpur, Araria, Purnia. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert in these areas and has appealed to the people to be cautious.
Uttar Pradesh: Monsoon speed slows down, but alert remains
The speed of monsoon has slowed down in UP, but the warning of light to moderate rain and thunderstorms has been issued for the next 5 days. There may be incidents of thunderstorms and lightning in many districts of eastern and western UP.
Rajasthan: Rain likely from Bikaner to Udaipur.
There is a possibility of light rain with thunder in districts like Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Ajmer, Udaipur, Sawai Madhopur since morning. Monsoon is gradually strengthening its hold in the state.
Delhi-NCR: Clouds are visible, but rain is still far away
There is movement of clouds in Delhi but rain has not arrived yet. The high humidity and temperature have troubled people. However, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for light to moderate rain on June 27, which is raising hopes of relief.
Jammu and Kashmir: Flood-like situation in Doda and Kathua.
Heavy waterlogging occurred on the Doda-Bhaderwah highway after rain. Two boys trapped in the river in Kot Pannu, Kathua were rescued with the help of SDRF and local people. The administration has strictly warned people not to go near rivers and drains.
