IMD Weather LIVE Updates: Monsoon is slowly knocking in North India. Punjab, Delhi, UP and Bihar, which were struggling with extreme heat for the last several days, are now expecting heavy rains.
According to the Meteorological Department, rains will be seen here along with strong winds and thunderstorms for the next one week. This weather activity will give relief to people from the heat. Apart from this, a separate warning has been issued for Sangrur district of Punjab. Dense clouds are currently covering many districts of Punjab and Chandigarh. Light rain is occurring in Mohali, Zirakpur, Rajpura and adjoining areas of Punjab.
Strong winds and thunderstorms are expected at some places in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR today. However, heavy rains may also occur at this time. This weather change will bring relief in those areas where the temperature had crossed 40 degrees.
Heavy rains to occur in Punjab, UP, MP, Haryana in next 3 hours
The Meteorological Department has issued a rain warning for Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana in the next three hours. A post made by IMD in the morning said, ‘During the next 3 hours, moderate rains may occur at some places in Kerala, Lakshadweep, South Gujarat state, South and North Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and heavy rains with thunder and lightning may occur at some places.’
The weather in North India and adjoining areas started showing its terrible form from Sunday night. Strong winds blew in many parts of Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, North Kerala and North Gujarat, the speed of which was more than 55 km per hour at many places. The wind speed in Safdarjung, Delhi reached a record 104 km per hour, which is considered to be the strongest storm of this season so far. Apart from this, strong winds of 100 km per hour will also blow in Sangrur, Punjab, due to which trees may fall in many places and power supply may also be affected.
Monsoon activities will also intensify in several districts of Uttar Pradesh in the coming days. A warning of heavy rain has been issued in the eastern parts of the state from June 16 to 20, while rain and strong winds are likely to occur with thunderstorms from June 14 to 19. Especially in the border districts of East Uttar Pradesh and West Uttar Pradesh, lightning incidents may also occur due to thunderstorms and rain, for which people have been advised to be alert.
The weather pattern in Bihar is set to change this week as well. Light to moderate rains are likely in many parts of the state from June 13 to 17, while on June 15, there is a possibility of strong thunderstorms (50-60 kmph) and lightning at some places. Apart from this, a warning of heavy rains has been issued for north and central parts of Bihar on June 18 and 19, which may be beneficial for farms, but may cause problems like waterlogging in urban areas.
