IMD Weather Today: Heatwave conditions are being witnessed in Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, Gujarat and western Uttar Pradesh. The maximum temperature in Rajasthan has crossed 46 degrees.
The mercury has crossed 40 degrees in many areas of Gujarat. Due to the strong sunshine, there is also a heatwave-like situation in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. In Delhi, the mercury is predicted to reach 40 to 41 degrees Celsius on Monday, April 28. However, there may be a big change in the weather today. There may be rain till the evening. Strong winds have also been predicted.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms in most states of eastern India. Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha as well as several northeastern states also received thunderstorms on Sunday, April 27. This brought some relief to the people of these states who were battling the scorching heat. Temperatures crossed 42-43 degrees in many parts of Odisha. The people here breathed a sigh of relief due to the rains accompanied by the storm.
IMD has predicted heavy rain at isolated places in Assam-Meghalaya, Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim and Odisha. In technical language, this is called pre-monsoon rain. Winds reaching a speed of 50-60 kmph are likely at isolated places in Assam-Meghalaya, West Bengal (Gangetic Plain), Odisha, Bihar, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and North Karnataka.
Apart from this, strong winds (40-50 kmph) and thundershowers are likely at isolated places in Meghalaya, South Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Jharkhand, West Madhya Pradesh, Marathwada, Telangana, Rayalaseema, South Karnataka and East Uttar Pradesh. Chances of hailstorm have also been forecast at some places in West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, East Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, North Karnataka and South Karnataka.
Temperature in Delhi will remain above 40
Recently, it rained in the country’s capital Delhi, due to which people got relief from the scorching heat. Earlier, the mercury had reached 43 degrees Celsius. Now once again the temperature has been predicted to cross 40. According to IMD, the mercury in Delhi may reach 41 degrees on 28 April 2025. Due to this, people in the country’s capital and its surrounding areas may have to face severe heat.
Heat wave in Rajasthan-Gujarat
Last week, Rajasthan witnessed severe heat conditions, with temperatures rising from 45°C to 46°C. However, the temperature had come down for some time due to rain and snowfall in the hilly areas. Now the temperature is expected to rise sharply once again, due to which heat wave may occur in many parts of West Rajasthan and Gujarat. There is a possibility of intense heat wave in the areas bordering Pakistan.
The temperature in Barmer reached 46.1 degrees. According to Skymet Weather, the Western Disturbance will now move eastwards across the mountains. Along with this, a cyclonic circulation is forming at low levels near central Pakistan and west Rajasthan. Due to this, southwesterly winds will come from Pakistan towards Rajasthan and Gujarat.
