India launches “Operation Sindhu” to evacuate Indian citizens from Iran

The conflict between Israel and Iran continues. Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Iran has advised people living in Tehran to leave and move to a safer place. Under which India has now launched “Operation Sindhu” to evacuate Indian citizens from Iran. As part of the initial phase of “Operation Sindhu”, they will reach New Delhi on the morning of 19 June 2025.

1. The situation is continuously deteriorating due to the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel. In view of this, the Government of India has been taking various steps to ensure the safety of Indian citizens living in Iran for the last few days.

2. In the first phase, the Indian Embassy safely evacuated 110 Indian students from northern Iran on 17 June 2025 and they crossed the border into Armenia. The students reached Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, by road, where the process was completed under the supervision of the Indian Missions in Iran and Armenia. The students left on 18 June 2025 at 2:55 PM in a special aircraft and will reach New Delhi on the morning of 19 June 2025 as part of the initial phase of “Operation Sindhu”.

3. The Government of India thanks the Governments of Iran and Armenia for successfully completing this safe evacuation process.

Amid the ongoing attacks between Israel and Iran, hundreds of Indian students in Iran had appealed to the Modi government to immediately evacuate them. Many students from Jammu and Kashmir are studying in various universities in Iran, including Shahid Beheshti University and Iran University of Medical Sciences.
