GST New Rate : New GST rates have come into effect across the country from today, September 22. Till now, there were four GST tax slabs in the country, which have now been reduced to just two.

Now, GST will be levied on products and services at the rate of 5 and 18 percent. Apart from these, 40 percent tax will be levied on luxury and sin products like tobacco, pan masala and expensive cars. New GST rates have come into effect in the country from today, September 22, 2025. This decision was taken in the GST Council meeting on September 3. This decision is being considered a major reform in GST since the year 2017. But the question in the minds of the country’s consumers is whether domestic LPG cylinders will also become cheaper?

GST on LPG cylinders

Currently, domestic LPG cylinders attract a 5% GST and commercial cylinders attract an 18% GST. Despite the new GST rules, this has remained unchanged. This means that the prices of both domestic and commercial cylinders will remain the same, and consumers will not receive any direct relief.

GST has been reduced on other products

Taxes have been reduced on many food items like ghee, cheese, butter, ice cream, pickles, jams and dry fruits. Due to this, FMCG companies are preparing to cut prices. Its direct impact will be seen on the pockets of the customers. Now products like cars, TVs, washing machines and ACs will be cheaper than before. It is estimated that the prices of TVs may decrease from Rs 2,500 to Rs 85,000. At the same time, room ACs may become cheaper by about Rs 4,700 and dishwashers by about Rs 8,000. Now the tax on small cars has been fixed at 18% and on big cars at 28%. GST on medicines and medical devices has been reduced to 5%.
