Marriage Registration New Rules : The Yogi Adityanath government has made a big change regarding marriage registration in Uttar Pradesh. From now on, at least one member of the bride and groom’s family will be required to be present at the time of marriage registration. This decision has been taken recently after the instructions of the Allahabad High Court.

The state’s Inspector General of Stamps has issued a circular regarding this new rule and it has been implemented with immediate effect. The government says that its purpose is to stop fake marriages and bring transparency in the process.

Who might be present?

According to the new rule, at the time of marriage registration, it is necessary for one of the parents, siblings, grandparents, or adult children to be present. If the family is not involved in the marriage, then the Pandit, Maulvi or Pastor conducting the marriage will have to come personally and verify the registration.

Marriage video and affidavit are also necessary

Now for marriage registration, it will be necessary to give the complete video recording, which will have to be submitted in a pen drive. Along with this, it will also be mandatory to give an affidavit, in which information about the marriage and consent has to be given.

Where can I get registered?

According to the sub-registrar of Ghaziabad, now marriage registration will be done only where the groom or bride’s family has a permanent address. This means that now no one can go anywhere and get the marriage registered.

crackdown on fake institutes

This step is also considered necessary because recently many cases have come to light where some institutions like Arya Samaj Mandir Trust got people married with fake documents. Last year, five FIRs were registered in Ghaziabad itself, in which complaints of such cases were made.

Big decision of the court

The main reason for this change was the case of Shani Dev vs Uttar Pradesh Government. In this case, there were about 150 cases of people eloping from their homes and getting married under suspicious circumstances. In such marriage registration cases, neither the family was informed nor any legal investigation was done. The court had expressed concern that these marriages could be misused for trafficking or exploitation. After this, the government took this tough decision.

A special seal will be affixed

If the marriage takes place without the consent of the family, then after verification by the registrar, a special seal will be put on the marriage certificate, which will show that this marriage has been registered after special verification under the new rules.

What will change with this?

The government believes that this step will not only make the marriage process more transparent and safe, but will also stop fake marriages and cases of forced marriage. A notice of this new system has been publicly pasted in the sub-registrar office of Ghaziabad, and a separate register has also been created for such cases. Now it is clear that marriage in Uttar Pradesh is no longer a private matter of only two people, but now the role of both the government and the family has become important in it.
