Meta Layoffs 2026: 8,000 Global Tech Jobs Cut

Meta Cuts 8,000 Jobs globally in Sweeping AI Restructuring

Now a massive shift is here. Recently, Meta cut many global jobs. Also, these cuts drop ten percent of the staff. Therefore, about 8,000 workers lose their jobs now.

Meanwhile, the big changes started on Wednesday. Reports show the cuts came in waves. Affected workers got news at 4 a.m. Thus, the quick move locked teams out fast.

Core Teams Hit by Cuts

First, the cuts hit key teams. For example, the cuts hurt the safety team. This group removes bad site content. Consequently, site safety resources are dropping fast.

Next, the cuts spread to tech groups. Media reports confirm security teams lost staff. Also, the site design team shrank fast. For this reason, remaining staff work more now.

The US Pay Help Plan

Fortunately, Meta is providing clear cash help. Bosses confirmed US workers get 16 weeks of pay. Additionally, workers get two weeks per year of work. Thus, older staff get a larger safety buffer.

The Move to AI Tools

Now, this cut is not a standard plan. Instead, the firm is changing its core goals. Specifically, the brand cut 6,000 open jobs. Then, bosses announced a massive shift of current staff.

Furthermore, Meta is moving 7,000 workers to AI teams. Therefore, tech power shifts to smart code tools. This shift shows how software needs erase old roles.

Low Morale and Data Tracking

However, these continuous changes destroy worker trust. Papers note that team morale is very low. This deep pain follows a new tracking tool. Now, Meta takes worker data to train models.

Consequently, many workers feel quite angry. For instance, more than 1,500 staff signed a protest note. One worker said Meta builds their replacements. Still, leadership refuses to stop the tracking.

Also, workers face lower spending on daily perks. For example, Meta cut back on annual raises. In fact, total worker pay fell by $30,000. So, financial pressures rise for the team.

Huge Tech Spend on Machines

Meanwhile, CEO Mark Zuckerberg pours cash into new projects. Currently, his wealth ranks him sixth in the world. Still, corporate spend focuses entirely on his Super AI plan. Therefore, machine costs replace human jobs.

Specifically, tech spend hits $125 billion to $145 billion this year. Now, that total is double the money spent last year. Zuckerberg defended the deep spending choice during a recent call:

“We are making a bet on things people care about. People will be more important in the future.”

Global Tech Job Market Trends

Finally, Meta is not the only business changing fast. A recent survey shows a broad pattern. Today, AI corporate shifts cut 16,000 tech jobs each month. For instance, Cisco recently cut 4,000 positions. Yet, Wall Street remains steady, and Meta stock rose 0.1 percent today.
