Mock Drill : Amidst the possibility of a war between India and Pakistan, preparations are being made in India to deal with it. Taking a major decision on Monday, the Home Ministry has directed all states to conduct a mock drill on May 7. Under this, sirens will be sounded at a specific time in the evening.
Don’t panic before the mock drill, make these preparations
Ahead of the drill, people have been advised not to worry and to make some necessary preparations to avoid any inconvenience during this period.
Make these necessary preparations before the drill:
- Fully charge your mobile phone and power bank at night.
- Keep battery or solar-powered torches, radios, glow sticks, etc. nearby.
- Carry a valid identity card with you.
- Keep an emergency kit ready: This includes drinking water, dry food, and essential medicines.
Safe haven and family drills
Decide on a safe place in advance, such as an interior room or basement.
Practice once as a family: turn off the lights and try to gather at the designated spot in 1-2 minutes.
Remember or write down the emergency number.

What to do during a blackout
- Do not use the elevator between 7 and 8 pm. Turn off the elevator to avoid being caught in a blackout.
- Don’t panic if you hear sirens or announcements – this is part of the drill.
- Follow police, administration, school or other official instructions.

During a blackout
- Stay indoors and away from windows.
- If you are driving, stop it on the side, turn off the engine and lights.
- Turn off interior and exterior lights, disconnect the inverter.
- Turn off gas and electrical appliances immediately.
Stay away from windows, take care of the elderly.
- Pay special attention to children, the elderly, and pets.
- Do not use phones or LED devices near windows.
- Cover windows with thick curtains or cardboard.
- Do not spread rumors or unverified information on social media.
What to do after a drill?
- After the drill is over, if no new instructions are received, normal operations can resume.
- If anyone has any problem, please contact the relevant administration.
- Explain to children and elders that this was a drill so that we would be prepared in case of an emergency.
