Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday announced a historic initiative. A FASTag-based annual pass worth ₹3,000 will be issued for private vehicles (such as cars, jeeps, vans, etc.) from August 15, 2025. The pass will be valid for one year or 200 journeys, whichever is earlier, from the date of activation.
This facility has been specially designed keeping in mind the non-commercial vehicles, to ensure smooth and hassle-free travel on national highways. Gadkari said that a separate link for this pass will soon be made available on the websites of NHAI and MoRTH and on the ‘Highway Travel App’, which will make activation and renewal of the pass simple and convenient.
What will be the benefit of the new pass system?
The new annual pass policy aims to address the long-standing issues related to toll plazas located within a radius of 60 km. Its main benefits are to make toll payment easier through a single digital transaction, reduce waiting time at toll plazas, reduce congestion and eliminate disputes. This announcement is expected to bring major relief to lakhs of private vehicle drivers, making their journey not only faster but also more comfortable and stress-free.
How much will the people benefit?
The aim of this pass is to reduce the problems faced at toll plazas. Especially for those people who live within a radius of 60 km of the toll plaza. It often happens that people living nearby also have to pay toll. This pass will give them relief.
