The Punjab Government has taken a major step to provide relief to the common people from the problems faced by them due to the backlog of RC (Registration Certificate) and DL (Driving License). Now these powers have been given to the regional officers so that the backlog work can be cleared quickly.
Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar said that citizens will be able to renew their old RC and DL online through the prescribed process. Earlier, these works were being delayed due to the need for an online system and non-availability of documents.
He said that an affidavit will be taken to bring the old files online in which the customer will have to provide all the information. While renewing the RC, it will be mandatory to get the physical inspection report, chassis and engine number of the vehicle uploaded by the Motor Vehicle Inspector.
Driving License backlog will also be uploaded through Sarathi software and sent for approval from the licensing authority. It has been made mandatory to upload original DL, proof of birth and address.
The Minister said that the entire process will be transparent and a daily report will have to be sent to the head office. If there is any wrong entry, the concerned officer will be held accountable.
