Online Alcohol Delivery: Whatever you need in India, be it household groceries or food… you can order online and it gets delivered to your home instantly. But there is one thing that is rarely available when ordered online and that is alcohol.
But now there is good news for alcohol drinkers. This good news has come from Kerala. Now you will be able to order alcohol sitting at home by clicking on your mobile. Kerala State Beverage Corporation (BEVCO) MD Harshita Attaluri has submitted a detailed recommendation to the government for online liquor sales. The move is aimed at increasing the state’s revenue and Bevco is expected to earn up to Rs 2,000 crore from it.
Harshita Ataluri said that several online delivery platforms, including Swiggy, are showing interest in this service. Three years ago, Bevco had also sought permission from the government for online sales, but it did not get the green light at that time. Now only people above the age of 23 will be able to order online, and for this they will have to provide proof of age.
Online sales will be allowed under certain conditions.
Bevco proposes that low-alcohol liquor should be available to everyone, including tourists, and that the sale of foreign-made beer should also be allowed. Online sales will be allowed under certain conditions, so that both safety and responsibility can be ensured.
Bottle return scheme also implemented
Meanwhile, the Kerala government has taken a unique step for environmental protection. Now while buying liquor from Bevco outlets, you will have to pay an additional ₹20 on plastic or glass bottles, which will be refunded on returning the bottle. This initiative will start as a pilot project in partnership with Clean Kerala Company in Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur from September.
Plastic ban, tracking through QR code
The excise department has clarified that liquor priced above ₹800 will now be sold only in glass bottles. Also, QR codes will be put on all the bottles so that the tracking and return process of the bottle can be easy. The government hopes that this will significantly reduce plastic waste and benefit the environment immensely.
