Paid holiday declared on June 19 for voting in Ludhiana West by-elections

Ludhiana: A paid holiday has been declared on June 19, 2025 under Section 135-B (1) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 to facilitate voting in the Ludhiana West by-election.

This applies to all employees working in industrial establishments, businesses, trades, shops or other establishments including those working on shift basis who are entitled to vote on the polling day for the Ludhiana West by-election.

Employees registered as voters in Ludhiana West constituency, employees working outside the constituency (such as in industrial or other establishments) are also entitled to this paid leave. This provision is also applicable to daily wage earners and general workers as mandated by Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

It is noteworthy that a total of 1,74,437 voters will exercise their franchise during the voting for the Ludhiana West by-election to be held on June 19. Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Himanshu Jain said that the administration has set up 192 polling stations at 66 locations to facilitate voting. The voter count includes 89,602 males, 84,825 females and ten persons identified as the third gender in the Ludhiana West Vidhan Sabha. Apart from this, the voters include 100 service voters, 2,039 senior citizens, 2,896 young voters (18-19 years of age), 17 foreign voters and 1,234 persons with disabilities (PwD).

To enhance the voting experience, the administration will set up ten model polling booths. Polling will be held from 7 am to 6 pm. Counting of votes will be held on June 23. The notification regarding the by-election has been issued today. The candidate should be a registered voter in any constituency in the state. A security deposit of Rs 10,000 for general category candidates and Rs 5,000 for SC, ST candidates has to be deposited before filing nomination or on the spot. He said that the maximum limit of election expenses for an assembly constituency has been fixed at Rs 40 lakh.
