The round of holidays continues for the residents of Punjab in the month of April. Holidays have already been announced in schools, colleges and government offices due to various festivals and special occasions.
Now, another government holiday has been announced, which will be applicable in the entire state on the occasion of Lord Parshuram Jayanti on 29 April 2025.
On the other hand, a controversy has arisen in Rajasthan regarding the holiday of Parshuram Jayanti. The state government had announced a state holiday on the occasion of Parshuram Jayanti on 29 April 2025, but now some organizations have demanded to change this date. These organizations say that the holiday of Parshuram Jayanti should be declared on 30 April, so that people can celebrate this festival with full devotion and pomp.
What will remain closed on 29 April?-
At the same time, the Punjab government has declared this day as a public holiday, and its purpose is to respect religious sentiments and social traditions. All government offices, schools, colleges and universities in the state will remain closed on April 29. However, some essential services like hospitals, ambulances, electricity-water and emergency services like fire brigade will remain fully functional.
Importance of Lord Parshuram Jayanti-
Lord Parshuram is worshiped as the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu in Hinduism. He was born on the Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh month. This day is considered very important especially among the Brahmin community, and it is celebrated with reverence and devotion across the country. In Punjab too, special pujas, Shobha Yatras and Bhandara are organized on this day.
Long Weekend: Three-day Holidays –
Punjab is getting three consecutive holidays this week, so the people of the state are going to get a long weekend. There is a Good Friday holiday on April 18, Saturday holiday on April 19, and Sunday holiday on April 20. This way, people can spend time with their family, enjoy the festivals or relax.

This step of the Punjab government is important towards respecting the diverse religious beliefs and traditions of the state. Be it the festivals of the Sikh community or the special days of Hinduism – the government respects the sentiments of all communities.
