The Punjab government has decided to increase the retirement age for medical officers/specialist doctors and dental faculty governed by the Punjab Dental Education (Group-A) Service Rules, 2016, from 62 to 65 years.

Increase in retirement age

Announcing this on Tuesday, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that the Finance Department has officially approved the proposal of the Department of Medical Education and Research.

Retirement age of govt employees increased by 3 years: Cheema said that with this approval, the retirement age of dental teaching faculty would be increased to 65 years, which is in line with the policy already in force for medical teaching faculty in government medical colleges and hospitals in Amritsar and Patiala. He stressed that this decision has been taken to leverage the expertise and experience of this highly skilled faculty in the long term, which will improve the overall performance and quality of the department of medical education and research.

Cheema said the decision would extend the service tenure of 113 professionals, including 112 dental teaching faculty members and one joint director, thereby utilising the expertise and experience of these medical faculties to further enhance the performance of the Department of Medical Education and Research.
