Retirement Age Hike : There is good news for employees. Once again their retirement age can be increased. Retirement age can be increased by 7 years. If this happens, employees will be able to serve till 65 years and Air India has taken a big decision for its employees.
According to sources, the airline has decided to increase the retirement age of pilots from 58 to 65 years and the retirement age of non-flying staff to 60 years. This move will bring Air India’s retirement policy in line with Vistara Airlines’ standards.
Consideration on increasing the retirement age from 58 to 65 years
According to the information, the airline’s CEO Campbell Wilson has made this announcement in a town hall meeting held on Friday. However, no official statement has been issued by Air India on this yet.
At present, the retirement age of both pilots and non-flying staff in Air India is 58 years but as per the airlines regulator, commercial pilots can fly till a maximum age of 65 years and earlier also in Air India, tenure of many pilots was extended up to 65 years under individual contracts but now this policy can be implemented for all.
Air India currently has 2400 employees
Air India currently has 2400 employees. These include 3600 pilots and 9500 cabin crew members. However, it is not clear whether the retirement age of the cabin crew will be increased or not. After the merger of Vistara Airlines with Air India in November 2024, there were reports of dissatisfaction over the difference in the retirement age of the employees.
Vistara pilots could serve till the age of 65 and non-flying staff till the age of 60. Now this change can provide equal opportunity to Air India employees. Experts believe that the decision will give India experienced pilots a longer service life, which will increase operational stability.
