School Closed Today. On 8 August 2025, the administration has declared a holiday in schools in view of the threat of heavy rains and possible floods in many districts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Uttarakhand.
The Indian Meteorological Department had issued red and orange alerts for many areas, warning of conditions like heavy rain, lightning and waterlogging. Due to this decision, lakhs of students from primary to intermediate were instructed to stay at home.
Considering the severity of the weather, this step was taken to ensure the safety of children and to avoid difficulties in commuting. After taking stock of the situation, the administration in districts like Lucknow, Varanasi, Patna, Khagaria has announced holidays for different durations.All schools up to class 8 were closed in Lucknow, while in some districts of Bihar there will be holiday till August 14. Holidays have also been declared in many schools in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand.
Kids having fun in the weather
The weather pattern has suddenly changed in many states of North India during the monsoon. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain in many districts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Uttarakhand. Red and orange alerts mean that there is a high possibility of disasters like waterlogging, floods and landslides in these areas. In some places, three times more rain than normal was recorded in the last 24 hours, which led to waterlogging in low-lying areas. That is why schools have been closed keeping in mind the safety and convenience of children
Sudden holiday order in Lucknow
In Lucknow, District Magistrate Visakh ji issued an order early in the morning and declared holiday in schools of all boards up to class 8. The order clearly stated that due to continuous rain, waterlogging on roads and traffic obstruction, it may be risky for children to come to school. Many areas like Hazratganj, Charbagh and Aliganj in the city were flooded, due to which both pedestrian and vehicle traffic was affected. Everyone has justified this step for the safety of children.
Schools closed in Varanasi and surrounding districts
In Varanasi, the administration has decided to close all schools for two days in view of the orange alert. Local people have been advised to remain alert due to the rising water level of Ganga near the ghats and in low-lying areas in Varanasi, NDRF teams have also been deployed in flood-affected areas. Village-city connectivity has been disrupted due to waterlogging on kutcha roads in rural areas. Many schools are also closed in Mirzapur and other districts around Varanasi.
Long term holiday in bihar
Due to heavy rains in Khagaria district of Bihar and the rise in the water level of rivers like Gandak, Bagmati and Kosi, an order has been issued to keep the schools closed till 14 August 2025. About 80 schools in Raghopur area of Vaishali have been affected, while schools in Patna’s Diara area are also closed till further orders. This decision was taken because movement in these areas is possible only by boat and this mode has also become unsafe due to rain.
Schools closed due to heavy rain in Uttarakhand
Due to continuous heavy rains in many districts of Uttarakhand, the administration has declared a holiday in schools for safety reasons. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for many areas of the state including Dehradun, Nainital, Pauri, Tehri and Champawat. The water level of rivers and drains has increased in these areas, due to which there is a danger of floods and landslides in low-lying areas. The administration has given instructions to keep all government and private schools closed. Also, people have been advised to remain alert.
