The State Department has made it clear that officials will scrutinize social media accounts, posts and messages that may be against the US government, citizens, cultural institutions or the country’s core principles.
According to the ministry’s statement, “Through this social media screening, we will ensure that every person entering the United States is thoroughly vetted and does not pose a threat to the country’s security or core policies in any way.”
With this new step, the path seems to be opening once again for students dreaming of studying in the US, but they will now have to take full responsibility for the cleanliness and appropriate use of their social media records.
