Abroad Education- Every year lakhs of Indian students head to foreign universities for higher education. Online courses are also available in some foreign universities. But UGC has issued a warning for Indian students studying abroad.
UGC has warned such students who are pursuing courses from foreign institutions without valid accreditation. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has clearly stated that such fake or illegal foreign degrees will not be recognized in India.

Sometimes, due to lack of information, Indian students get admission in institutions whose degrees are invalid in India. Due to this, both their years of hard work and money are wasted. The UGC has appealed to students and parents to check thoroughly before enrolling in any course abroad. It is possible that the university and the course may not be included in the UGC’s list of accreditation. The commission has also said that many online or hybrid courses are being run abroad, which have no official status.
The UGC said that degrees from foreign universities that are not included in the Indian recognition list will also be considered invalid in India. According to the UGC, some agents or companies are misleading students and charging huge amounts by making false promises.
Enroll only in accredited courses.
The UGC has advised students to take admission only in those foreign universities which are recognized by the government of that country and the concerned bodies of India like UGC. Before starting studies, make sure to check all the information on the official website of that course and the university.
Pay special attention to online and distance courses
UGC has said that these days many foreign institutions are claiming to offer degrees in online or distance mode. If it is not approved by UGC or AICTE, then those courses have no recognition in India. Therefore, it is very important to check the validity of any online course before joining it.
How to protect students from fraud?
UGC has advised that students should not blindly trust any agent or counselor. Verify the accreditation of the university and course yourself. If you get a fake degree, you may face problems in getting a government job, higher education or any professional license in the future.
