School Education Department issued order, will not apply to teachers

In an order issued by the School Education Department on Wednesday, it was told that in view of the extreme heat in the state and its possible adverse effect on the health of children, the dates of summer holidays have been partially revised. Under the new order, summer vacation will be from April 25 to June 15. However, this order will be applicable only to students – teachers will still have to perform their responsibilities at the school level.

Old records broken, mercury close to 44 degrees

The most intense heat of this season has been recorded in many parts of the state. The temperature in Raipur, Bikaner and other cities reached close to 44 degrees, creating heat wave like conditions. It had become necessary for the administration to declare a holiday in view of the possibility of health hazards for children while going to and coming from school and sitting in classes.

The demand was raised from social media to the streets

For the last few days, there was a flood of posts and comments on social media demanding holidays in schools. Many parents and public representatives had also appealed to the administration to take concrete steps in this direction. Raigarh Mayor Jivardhan Chauhan had also written a letter to the collector recommending closure of schools. Now that the holidays have been announced, students and parents have heaved a sigh of relief.
