The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has implemented revised toll rates from April 1 (midnight of March 31). Annual revision of toll rates

Different increase on every vehicle

Car drivers will now have to pay Rs 125 instead of Rs 120, while for the return they will have to pay Rs 190 instead of Rs 185. For light commercial vehicles, the fare for the first trip has been increased from Rs 195 to Rs 205 and for the return from Rs 295 to Rs 305. Bus and truck drivers were earlier required to pay Rs 415, which has now increased to Rs 430, while for the return they will now have to pay Rs 640.

Toll fee increased for heavy vehicles

Toll rates for heavy vehicles have also been increased. The toll for 10-wheeler vehicles has been increased from Rs 450 to Rs 465 and Rs 700 for return. The fare for heavy trailers and big vehicles has been increased from Rs 650 to Rs 670 and Rs 1005 for return. The heaviest vehicles will now have to pay Rs 815, which was Rs 790 earlier and Rs 1225 instead of 1185 for return.

Impact on passengers and transport sector

This toll rate hike will have a direct impact on common passengers and transport companies. Bus and truck operators can increase fares, which will put an additional burden on the pockets of passengers. The prices of goods can also be affected due to the cost of freight.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is planning to close a 500-metre stretch to facilitate the construction of a flyover and two underpasses on this expressway. Due to this, the possibility of traffic jam on the road has increased. According to NHAI officials, one underpass will connect Dwarka Expressway to Nelson Mandela Marg, while the other will connect Dwarka Link Road to NH-48.

As reported by Hindustan Times, traffic police officials said that while two underpasses and a flyover are being constructed, vehicles on the highway will be diverted towards the slip road constructed by the NHAI next to the carriageway towards Delhi.

AS Yadav, Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) said that traffic on NH-48 near Shiv Murti crossing would be diverted from the main highway to the newly constructed slip road. According to NHAI officials, the construction work will be completed within 90 days.

Around 75,000 vehicles pass through here daily.

AS Yadav said the traffic police have analyzed the route and the traffic volume on this stretch. By March 14, he will give no-objection certificate to NHAI so that they can start the construction work. The diversion from the slip road will not pose a major problem to commuters as these roads are not narrow. He estimated that around 75,000 vehicles pass through here every day. The new construction will reduce the travel time for commuters going towards Dwarka.

The work of this project started in 2019

Work on the project began in 2019 and was expected to be completed in 2021, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the timelines for both the Delhi and Gurugram sections were revised.
